Operational Emissions / Energy

Efficient

The renovation significantly reduces operational energy demand while respecting the constraints of the existing monumental building. The building envelope was upgraded with internal façade insulation and insulation to the roof and ground floor, combined with improved airtightness. The school is fully electric and gas-free, using a heat pump for heating and cooling. Demand-controlled ventilation based on CO₂ measurements, heat recovery, demand-controlled heating and cooling, energy-efficient LED lighting and photovoltaic panels further reduce energy consumption. The preliminary design calculation resulted in an energy demand of 73.2 kWh/m²/year, primary fossil energy use of 91.5 kWh/m²/year and a renewable energy share of 29.3%. The calculated energy performance coefficient was 0.56, compared with the 0.70 requirement for new educational buildings applicable at the time of design.
