Operational Emissions / Energy
The building was designed as an Effizienzhaus 40 Plus with a high-performance envelope, integrated photovoltaic facade that generates renewable energy on site and external solar shading.
Service and maintenance emissions
The project utilised prefabricated timber modules, durable facade materials and a highly standardised construction system. The modular approach also allows components to be replaced or adapted without extensive reconstruction.
Afterlife
The modular construction provides a high degree of flexibility, with the building composed of prefabricated timber modules that can be adapted to different office and research uses. The regular structural grid and repetitive floorplan allow spaces to be reconfigured without fundamentally altering the building.
The prefabricated modular construction supports disassembly, as the building is assembled from individual timber modules rather than constructed entirely as a monolithic structure. This allows the modules to be separated and potentially reused.
