A lot of measures have contributed to making the school a highly energy-efficient building and a plus-energy house that produces more than 2 kWh/m² per year. Solar panels (PV) have been installed on all roof surfaces, including the bike hotel, garage, and storage shed. The solar panels produce more than the building's energy needs, while the school also appears as a wooden structure. The surplus is fed into the local power grid in the community.

By choosing the products and solutions with measurable outcomes that reduce environmental impact the greenhouse gas emissions from material use in the building are reduced from 6,663 tons of CO2-equivalents through the lifecycle, to 3,805 tons of CO2-equivalents through the lifecycle. This represents a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Measurable environmental impact results

The project achieves a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, with the following measures contributing:

-22% reduction from the extensive photovoltaic (PV) systems installed across the roof surfaces, generating significant on-site renewable energy.

-12% reduction from the high-performance building envelope, including superior insulation and airtightness, which significantly decreased heating and cooling demands.

-6% reduction from the utilization of sustainable and low-carbon materials, such as solid wood construction and low-carbon concrete, minimizing embodied carbon
