In Los Angeles, where the landscape is as much a client as the human resident, architecture becomes an act of translation. This Beverly Hills hillside home, conceived by Whipple Russell Architects, answers a geologic challenge with sculptural serenity — a cascading Mediterranean retreat that follows the natural slope of its ridgeline parcel with grace, restraint, and reverence. The Eyrie

The design concept was to give the building the appearance of an original grand homestead - while simultaneously introducing a contemporary loft style addition.The existing conditions on this renovation project were fairly un-inspiring. A decision was made to demolish any areas that were ineffective or cumbersome. The original curved staircase was transformed into a serene sculptural element with Blackbutt battens in front of existing curved windows, casting a magical display of shadows throughout the day. Black Glass lines the lounge media wall and reflects the elevated views from the opposing windows.
