The School of Visuals Arts engaged Spacesmith to renovate their popular MFA Photography, Video, and Related Media program which occupies the 6,000 sf ground floor of a former warehouse building. The project was divided into two phases: the first addressing all classroom, studio, faculty, and common spaces; the second a new multi-purpose area connecting the façade to the interior. Recognizing the critical need to accommodate its growing academic programs, NYU engaged Davis Brody Bond and KieranTimberlake to replace its one-story Coles Sports Center with a new mixed-use development to hold a diverse array of performing arts programs, rehearsal studios, and performance venues, as well as first-year student and faculty housing. Spacesmith designed and selected all the furnishings for the 735,000 sf building. In 1944, Eleanor Roosevelt dedicated Adelphi’s first buildings for nursing students. With the Nexus Building, Adelphi continues to be a pacesetter in nursing education and creates a unique link between this crucial field of study and the campus community. The Learning Resource Center at Utah Valley State College is a 29,000 square foot building which had 21,000 square feet remodeled. The building was designed in order to accommodate future growth with a second level added to the new addition. The focal point is a large space with a skylight providing natural light to the interior. More

The Oblates of Mary Immaculate founded St. Augustine School over one hundred years ago, at which time the school shared quarters with St. Augustine Church in a domed, three-storey, brick building located in the Kitsilanoneighbourhood of Vancouver. In 1951, the original school was demolished and replaced with what was to be a temporary, single-storey, wood-frame building. Sixty-four years later, a new three-storey, 300 student, 4,200 square metre, red brick-clad school and child care facility that features fifteen classrooms, a learning commons, multipurpose spaces and allowance for a new gymnasium occupies the compact site. Our design for the business school grew out of a question: How might a single building energize and transform an entire campus? In our early visits to USD, we found that the campus lacked cohesion and easy circulation between its distinct ends that function as public portals. Our design, completed in 2009, brings a powerful organizing force to the campus. New landscapes—we created three—were as central to our design as the 75,000 SF building itself. Our first move was to relocate a parking lot; in its place we created a new quadrangle and sited the business school on it.
