This one-story building, with its trapezoid shape and slanted front facade, offers an outdoor space that is both functional and visually appealing. In Thailand, the public generally has a rather negative perception towards pawn shops as a financial last resort. Their appearance is also normally obscured and unwelcome. To challenge this, the Client has a vision to remodel his family’s pawn shop business into just another form of financial institution that can be widely accepted. Getting money from a pawn shop will be regarded as a lifestyle, no longer a necessity. DOF sky|ground The building is situated in Pathum Thani, about 30 minutes further up north of Bangkok. The site is elevated one floor above the road level which allows an access directly from the road level into a full basement comprising a large car park, entrance foyer, wine cellar and utility rooms. The form of the house takes on a series of overlapping boxes which emphasize the form of the slopping site. Whilst the expression is unconventional, the concept of tropical living prevails with light and ventilation coming in through courtyards and sheltered openings. Old and new come together in LeidenAt the head of the Plantsoen in Leiden, a complex of six apartments will be realized in a municipal monument. The building is a composite building with a round extension and forms a striking entrance to the city center. The old and new situation can be seen well below. The building is being restored by the restoration contractor Burgy. The existing facade of the round extension is finished with bronze-colored anodized MD Formatura with a leaf motif.
