The museum and visitor centre for the Bylis archaeological site in southern Albania is the result of a collaboration between Studio Lauria, Abkons and Archi.Media. The project interprets the Illyrian archaeological landscape as a unified system in which ruins, topography, vegetation and new visitor facilities work together to tell the story of the site. The building unfolds across several levels along a hillside of olive trees and broom, following the slopes rather than imposing an alien form. The volumes break down into smaller elements, the roofs become shading devices, and terraces create viewpoints over the archaeological site and the wider landscape.
