AJ Oxford Table Lamp
The AJ Oxford Table Lamp has a sleek graphic expression, which reflects the architecture of St Catherine's College, in Oxford, for which it was originally designed. St Catherine's College, inaugurated in 1963, was designed by Arne Jacobsen in a modernist architectural style, which stands in contrast with the surrounding classical architecture of Oxford University. The AJ Oxford Table Lamp was first designed as a table pin lamp for the impressive dining hall at the college, which housed long rows of oak tables, seating 350 people. The table lamps act as centrepieces on the tables, while natural light comes from clerestory windows and the wall-mounted AJ Eklipta provides diffused general lighting. AJ Table
The fixture emits downward directed light. The angle of the shade can be adjusted to optimize light distribution. The shade is painted white on the inside to ensure a soft comfortable light.
Designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1960 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen (Radisson Blu). The light contributed to the total design concept of the hotel. Several of the hotel items have achieved design icon status today, and among the lighting products the AJ lamps in particular have become world renowned. Five new colour variants were introduced in connection with the 50th anniversary of the launch of the AJ family. The new colours have been carefully chosen in line with an updated Arne Jacobsen colour scheme.
