Our team in Paris demonstrated its expertise in sustainability on a particularly complex project. The task was to combine the listed building ‘Le Palacio’ with the requirements of the present and the necessities of ecology. Proprietor Dizzi Alfons, BWM architect Erich Bernard and interior stylist Peter Weisz brought the famous Sachertorte to Trieste and saved the heritage building, where they put a lot of thought and care into integrating the new elements into the restored original furnishings from 1912. Originally the plot is occupied by a school composed of adjoining buildings - a 1910s villa, converted into school offices, a building of classes of 2 levels, 1930s, and two low wings  from the same time.  The whole is quite heterogeneous, unbalanced and off scale in its suburban environment. The buildings are restructured and intended for housing. Two challenges are presented to the architect. Reintegrate the composition into its urban setting and give it consistency and character. A luxury silver apartment in the art deco style, designed for aesthetes, intellectuals and art lovers of the early XX century. The owners of the apartment were inspired by the classics of the art deco era: Rene Lalique, Edgar Brandt and Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann, so they would like their interior as a synthesis of historical traditions and modern features. Central zone of the apartment is the guest area which is designed as an integrated space. The premises of the four houses are located around a common stair-lift lobby - atrium. In the basement are areas of cinema and billiard room. The first floor comprises a group of ceremonial and technical kitchen, dining room and split-level living room-library. Main lift and staircase hall is raised on three floors and opens the space of the house throughout its extent. Having made the decision not to conceal the space of the staircase hall, but to strengthen the impression it makes, the volume of the hall was visually stretches by active verticals. The project had included a complete cycle of works: from architectural and interior design to the development of object design. Upon defining the overall design which is based on the art deco style, we have created a space for a large family. A three-section house comprised of two wings and a central gallery is located on a hectare area. The space of the house includes a set of private and common zones, billiard room, spa area, pool and office-technical unit for staff. More

Our project is “ The Hambly House” and it is a rare example of 1930s Streamline Moderne architecture in Hamilton. The house has undergone a full restoration with an additional second storey wrapped in floor-to-ceiling glass. The renovation respects the original character and detailing of the designated heritage house and the interior has been completely refinished, and clean, minimalist custom millwork was designed throughout the house. The Hambly House is one of just a handful of Art Moderne houses in Ontario and it also won the Award of Excellence in Architecture at the Hamilton Urban Design and Architecture Awards.
