Ashwood

Creating a chair that is both friendly and essential. This is the idea of Victor Carrasco, who, to soften the traditional Nordic minimalism, has worked on the thickness of the plywood shell to create a one-off within the Billiani collection. As an inquisitive designer who is also at the helm of a chair manufacturing company, Carrasco imagines a large variety of bases, inviting architects and designers to participate in the product design phase - in a co-creation process that has openness and creativity as its strong points. The White chair is inspired by sixties Nordic design, in addition to acknowledging both the strong and uncompromising aesthetics of its designer, Harri Koskinen, as well as the legacy of Billiani's Green chair, which it also resembles through the choice of name. Both have generous shapes and four-centimetre thick legs, but White is even more robust: a chair with a reassuring presence, for all contexts where sturdiness and comfort are essential. More

Michael Geldmacher describes Layer as a chair that seems to have existed for ever despite being new - the simple result of a complex work in which aesthetics and constructive capacity intertwine. On the splayed ashwood legs sits a plywood frame that incorporates the padded armrest and back, where design and material are in sync. Lilliput is a collection of solid ashwood coffee tables born from a single design feature. Everything revolves around the comb joint of the legs, which support a round top. The two elements are joined by two knobs in natural ash, aesthetic details that reveal the sealing system and the basic assembly system. And the ease of assembly and disassembly is what makes these coffee tables versatile, easy to transport, and quick to install. More

Francesco Faccin is a designer who loves wood and craftsmanship. With Billiani, therefore, the perfect connection was created and Green is the result. The starting point is the Nordic design of the 1930s, but with tweaked proportions. The profile, solid yet essential, integrates the structural elements and the curved backrest is welcoming, as is the shape of the seat. The legs, slightly oversized compared to the norm, are lightened by the thin and slightly raised seat. More

Puccio is inspired by milking stools, seats without design or designers which thanks to their functionality, have survived unchanged over centuries. Starting from this quaintly old-fashioned item, which Bruno Munari would perhaps have included among those of the famous list "Compasso d'oro Unknowns", Emilio Nanni created a collection of stools, benches and tables designed to furnish the tightest spaces, such as on a pavement. In addition to the ash version, which expresses the warmth of wood, Puccio is also available in metal, lighter, essential and more sophisticated. More

Fratina is inspired by those classic chairs with rush seats. In Emilio Nanni's reinterpretation, the designer exaggerates its lines, the legs have a round section and the backrest, attached to the rear legs, is generous to the point of becoming a semicircle in the armchair version. The seat is available in fabric, leather, leather straps or woven cellulose cord, which simulates the ancient processing of rush wickerwork.   When Gabriele Rigamonti, Carla Scorda and Vittorio Turla of Studiocharlie presented the wooden chair they had designed to Billiani, the prototype was orangey red and its name was Aragosta, the Italian for lobster, due to the imposing seat and tapering legs.
