SUGARAN
The design of Suragan began with a single question. In a context where overt expressions of “Korean-ness” are often read as Chinese imagery, and restrained Korean aesthetics are frequently perceived as Japanese Zen, the project asked how an East Asian space might be experienced and interpreted.

Rather than relying on ornament or symbolic references, the project revisited the structural principles through which East Asian architecture has historically formed space. Attention was given to how elements such as the platform, columns, and roof—components that support form—organize use and direct sightlines.
