This luxury residence was embedded into this steep hillside to overlook Lake Travis from two confluent directions. We were challenged to create views through, and access to, the pool from every room on the main level. In response, we created a glass jewell box that sits on top of a concrete plinth. The main entry area is an open void that bridges the lake to the user upon immediate entry. The lower level is is comprised of four individual private suites that pierce through the concrete shell to accommodate lake views.   More

In order to accommodate a growing congregation in a developing suburb of Austin, we were selected by this church to design a new 1,200 seat worship hall adjacent to their existing chapel and multipurpose building. The result had to provide the church with more of a presence at the street, but still fit into the area's residential context.  Upon entering the church through 10 foot tall custom bronze doors, parishioners are be able to experience a variety of materials such as wood, stone, steel, fabric and glass, all working together in harmony and highlighted by various clearstory windows to further enhance the spiritual experience for parishioners.  An undeveloped 5 acre lot had been a gathering place for the client’s family since the 1970’s. This beautiful lakefront oasis, known affectionately as The Narrows, lies just a few miles outside of downtown Austin. The owners insisted on a simple, humble, yet unique cabin to host their family gatherings and quiet weekend retreats. ​ This small cabin, nicknamed ‘Cousin Cabana’, needed to host multiple programs in a small space while maintaining a sense of openness. Eberly, inspired by sources both humble and lofty, marries a former 1970s print shop building with a salvaged bar from the storied Cedar Tavern in New York’s Greenwich Village to create a sophisticated bar, cafe and restaurant in central Austin. Following the owner’s purchase of the legendary bar, hand-carved mahogany sections were carefully transported and restored with the goal to again surround the bar top with a creative atmosphere worthy of the original. Clayton Korte transformed this site with six magnificent Live Oaks and its centerpiece 1888-vintage Victorian mansion (recognized by Austin’s Historic Landmark Commission as the Miller-Crockett House) into an oasis for one of Austin’s treasured boutique hotels. The design preserves the park-like space in the middle of the site in keeping with the original rhythms of the neighborhood. The Live Oaks provide the framework for siting four new buildings to complement the renovated mansion, itself converted into five suites. A showcase of Western Window Systems' Series 600 Window Walls with large, 4’ x 7’ hinged windows for ventilation, this unique home comes courtesy of Texas-based Bada Architects and Nalle Custom Homes. Along with the homeowner, the teams worked together to create a stylish residence that had "the contemporary look of a storefront, but the attention to detail, weather protection, and fit and finish of a luxury home." For a cost-conscious couple in Austin, architect Sean Guess created a livable home with a simple, modern approach. One of his first orders of business: the kitchen. By extending the exposed floor joists beyond a Western Window Systems’ Series 600 Multi-Slide Door, Guess created a cantilevered porch roof, creating an inviting and inventive kitchen with a strong connection to the patio. “One of my main tenets from a design standpoint is rhythm,” Guess says in Dwell magazine. “I like being in the kitchen and sensing the rhythm and extension to the outside.” More

This 3,400 sf dental office is located in Austin, TX. Upon entering, patients are welcomed by a waiting area that is comfortable and cozy with multiple seat options to choose from as well as a fireplace that truly makes it feel like a home living room. In the waiting area there is a beverage station for patients to enjoy while they wait. The reception desk features natural wood back-lit with LEDs to create a modern feel. The hallway leading to the exam rooms and offices is light and area featuring barn door style sliding doors. A pale blue and white color palette also contributes to the bright and airy feeling. More

Located on one of the few lots in Dallas elevated enough to enjoy a view of the downtown skyline, the five-story Vertical House rises dramatically above the treetops to capture views of the surrounding gardens and the skyline beyond. Characterized by clean lines, sheer glass walls, and sculptural sun shades, this sharply-detailed house offers an intriguing counterpoint to the tropical ambiance of its forest-like setting. The client, an avid collector of exotic plants, wanted a house that would not only maximize views of the site, but also maintain privacy from neighboring properties. Late last year Lightlink was asked to be involved in the TEDxAustin conference by designing lighting to inspire the conference attendees. The F1 Suspension was inspired in its shape by the new CotA Formula 1 track /TEDx conference in Austin for which it was designed. The theme was 'fearless' this year, so we decided to think outside what we'd done before. We repurposed two (2) 12"x10' long pieces of 1/8" water-jet cut aircraft aluminum that had a long 'window' cut into it along its length between which was installed 2 layers of heavy dichroic film.
