Birdman Japanese Pub

The project was about creating a dark shady space with diffused light on raw materials and being implemented exclusively by custom design. Scope was to blend the “mysterious orient” with the contemporary Athenian streetscape. The layout is organized as an alleylike space: the bar creates a linear axis to connect the two entrances. The interior is conceived as a quiet room with fine sand walls, glazed ceramic tiles and engraved surfaces of raw oak wood, blended with the original, repaired terrazzo flooring. We reworked with a few forgotten techniques and materials, – the steel hammered panels from Thrace, nothern Greece and the karagatsi wooden stools, a sturdy wood used in traditional shipping. All materials have been cra... More

ON - Mobile Bar

ON is a single edition mobile bar designed from scratch in order to respond to specific users’ needs, inspired by the existing interior architecture of their apartment. Nothing more than necessary to function well, as little design as to be useful, transformed this complex item into a simple one. This simplicity made it take many forms and serve different functions. With the assistance of OgTM castors, travelling from the reception area to the balcony as a bar for drinks that fits six high stools, and to the kitchen as a breakfast bar and an extension to the kitchen counter-top, where the concealed stainless steel shelf is operable. The tensile strength of gunmetal steel, the energy of genuine leather, and the authenticity of terraz... More

Yahvi Residence

The Yahvi Residence is located in Coimbatore amidst three built forms. The design emphasis was on open spaces to facilitate abundant lighting and proper ventilation. This is achieved through a  central courtyard and skylight that forms the core of the house. The courtyard is the beating heart of the house in bringing the family together, connecting the various rooms, and serves as the perfect backdrop for family celebrations and events. Handmade Moroccan tiles accentuate the vertical wall of the courtyard, in stark contrast with the textural ochre.  The planning ensures that all rooms in the house from the bedrooms to common areas, such as the living and dining, connect to a semi-open/open space. The building's elevation has a str... More

Monterosa Holiday Home

This holiday home is designed on the hills of Sirumalai, Tamil Nadu to employ its sloped context, the incredible valley views, and the wilderness that surrounds it, blurring the line between man and nature. It was built on an existing foundation to minimize impact and cantilevers slightly over the edge. Large terrace and deck areas ensure the experiential fixity of nature. Building finishes are an amalgamation of rubble masonry, straw, thatch, terracotta, hand plaster, and laterite, all of which are sourced within close proximity of the site. Interiors are a cohesion of raw aesthetic, natural materials, and finishes that are contextually sensitive. Repurposed stems of old guava trees act as natural safety markers around the house. Apart fro... More

An alpine cabin for an urban context

Linehouse was commissioned by Canadian lifestyle brand Herschel Supply to develop their retail stores throughout Asia. The Tokyo location is the first flagship for Herschel Supply, located in the trendy streets of Shibuya.   Drawing from Herschel’s roots in Vancouver, Canada, an urban center surrounded by nature, Linehouse took the notion of the urban forest and the kind of dwelling one might find there. In doing so, they reconceptualised the alpine cabin for an urban context, creating a fragmented dwelling. The façade is lined with angled timber battens, painted on either side in various hues of blue. A shifting horizon of colour is experienced on approaching the store. From one direction the façade appears to be wood i... More

London family home

The owners of this 13,000 square foot house lovingly designed and rebuilt it over a period of 6 years and as a result it showcases cutting-edge design, contemporary finishes and an exacting attention to detail that represents the affluence of this professional couple. The client was enormously proud of the outcome of the build and felt reluctant to furnish the property with bold finishes that might detract from the stunning interior architectural backdrop. Fitzrovia, London

Some of the best things in life come in small packages and the recent refurbishment of a compact apartment in Fitzrovia by Roselind Wilson Design is no exception. Cinematographer's House and Studio

Due to the success of the original building designed by Colin Pennington, the client asked Inside Out to return in order to undertake the design and construction of a new extension to the residence. The original design and build incorporated bespoke design solutions tailored to the client’s lifestyle. The extensive remodelling and extension continued these ideas creating an additional high-specification cinema room, a double height library and a new master bedroom with en suite. This additional work would create expansion to the building, which would provide further contemporary living spaces within its complex urban setting. In order to meet the brief of creating new living spaces and extending the original building, Inside Out...
