An alpine cabin for an urban context
Linehouse was commissioned by Canadian lifestyle brand Herschel Supply to develop their retail stores throughout Asia. The Tokyo location is the first flagship for Herschel Supply, located in the trendy streets of Shibuya. Drawing from Herschel’s roots in Vancouver, Canada, an urban center surrounded by nature, Linehouse took the notion of the urban forest and the kind of dwelling one might find there. In doing so, they reconceptualised the alpine cabin for an urban context, creating a fragmented dwelling. London family home
The owners of this 13,000 square foot house lovingly designed and rebuilt it over a period of 6 years and as a result it showcases cutting-edge design, contemporary finishes and an exacting attention to detail that represents the affluence of this professional couple.The client was enormously proud of the outcome of the build and felt reluctant to furnish the property with bold finishes that might detract from the stunning interior architectural backdrop. Some of the best things in life come in small packages and the recent refurbishment of a compact apartment in Fitzrovia by Roselind Wilson Design is no exception. Charismatic and well-travelled, the client wanted his London pied-à-terre to reflect his vibrant personality with bold colours, textures and some serious wow factor. From a functional point of view, the apartment needed to be able to accommodate visiting friends and family, as well as act as a welcoming bolthole for when he returned from his travels. Due to the success of the original building designed by Colin Pennington, the client asked Inside Out to return in order to undertake the design and construction of a new extension to the residence.
The original design and build incorporated bespoke design solutions tailored to the client’s lifestyle. The extensive remodelling and extension continued these ideas creating an additional high-specification cinema room, a double height library and a new master bedroom with en suite.
This additional work would create expansion to the building, which would provide further contemporary living spaces within its complex urban setting.
