Kilkenny Limestone is a dense, compact Irish blue limestone quarried by Kilkenny Limestone, a Brachot Family Member, from three quarries in Counties Kilkenny and Carlow: Kellymount and Holdensrath in Co. Kilkenny, and Old Leighlin in Co. Carlow. Together, they yield approximately 75,000 m³ annually and supply both Irish and international markets. The stone is a sedimentary rock formed some 340 million years ago from marine organisms in shallow tropical seas. This geological origin accounts for its characteristic blue-grey tone and the fossil inclusions — crinoids, corals, brachiopods — visible in both the Blue and Fossil varieties.
