Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park

The story of this park is one of social equity and justice. The park was programmed and designed with heavy reliance on the aspirations and opinions of the local community, which had long-standing, lingering issues since the era of urban renewal. J.B.L. Riverfront Park is located on the HIllsborough River and is the centerpiece of the city's West Tampa Plan.West Tampa is a historic neighborhood once known as Robert City, the center of African-American living, jobs and culture prior to urban renewal. In the 60's the neighborhood was cut off by a freeway and the core of Robert City was demolished to build this park. Initially successful, by the mid 80's the park had become a symbol of racial strife, police intervention, drugs and gangs. Event... More

Formentera Water Sports Center

The port of La Savina is the main point of access to Formentera island. Its important geographical location makes it the border between an urban area, the Mediterranean Sea and a saltwater lake which forms part of Ses Salines Natural Park. Giving protection to the open sea, this lake has traditionally been used as a natural harbor to anchor small fishing boats. And, currently, the administration has deemed it suitable to house the municipal sailing school as well as other nautical sports and activities. The functional program offered a duality (classrooms + offices versus workshop + dressing rooms) that has divided the volumetry into two independent parts aligning the first one with Almadrava Street and the second one with the passage... Punta de Mar

Punta de Mar is a startup that emerges from an idea of the Mano de Santo architecture team, and that KMZero Open Innovation Hub, has been responsible for developing and promoting as a business. A floating accommodation that provides a unique experience of integration with the natural environment. Being this the protagonist, the design must allow the user to perceive it directly with the 5 senses. Caption Designed as a pavilion from which we approach the sea and learn to love it, take care of it and respect it. The sea mirror of the soul and icon of freedom. The coexistence with this favors disconnection, relaxation and well-being. A 360º experience thanks to the design and the technology used as a tool that he... More

Sagamore North Boathouse

Inspired by the simple and prevalent image of wood docks found along the edges of the Muskoka lakes, the boathouse was conceived as a series of planar elements that slide past one another. The slippage of planes echoing the movement of water as it shifts course.Comprised of 2 bedrooms, a shared bathroom and lounge area with kitchenette on the upper level, the lower level provides functional storage space including three boat slips, and custom cabinetry for recreational equipment with an expansive dock. This 2,300 square foot lakefront structure serves as a guest suite beside an adjacent cottage, with panoramic views of the open water, islands and distant shoreline beyond. An elongated cantilevered trellis supported by a perme... 360° Kiosks

The proposed site for the 360° Kiosks rests on the stretch of land sandwiched between the historical Anderson Bridge and a conservation project – Water Boathouse (a restaurant refurbishment of a former British port office). This pier was the original site of the Singaporean icon, the Merlion till 2002 when it was relocated to the Merlion Park. This narrow strip of land is approximately 35 m long and ranges from 7m to 13 m in width. There are at present 6 tensile membrane canopy structures providing shade at varying heights. Studio SKLIM decided to tackle this tight challenge and the 360° kiosks were born. The 360° kiosks were evolved from three main criteria:  a)    Minimum footprint and maximum flexi... More

Fisherman Workshop

This project presents an opportunity to radically question the boundaries, to write a poem adventurous and invigorating on the juxtaposition of unusual situations: a mixture of professional and private lives, a vital and essential complicity between the fisherman and lake, a relationship between the intimate and delicate fish product and the lover of fresh... Thrown as a bridge linking the workshop at the horizon of Lake part of Cortaillod near Neuchatel. Inside the object, a production line that leads the fish into the consumer basket: boathouse, workshop fishing and fish processing, retail space. SERLACHIUS MUSEUM – GÖSTA EXTENSION

Competition jury: "Beautiful, elegant, and refined, this entry understands Joenniemi as a whole that forms a meeting place where art, architecture, and nature come together. Expressionless glass volumes accentuate the manor’s entrance square splendidly and assume natural positions within the scale of the existing buildings. The sculpture garden located below ground level that forms the heart of the museum is a charming solution. All galleries have a distinctive character, and the exhibition path works well. The small, pavilion-type buildings of Joenniemi and Taavetinsaari activate all of the manor grounds for the museum visitors in an elegant way."Project Text: The Serlachius Gösta Museum is home to one of the most significant private art c... East Lake House

An intrinsic connection to, and respect for, nature defines this Montauk weekend residence at every glance. The owners purchased two adjacent lots that were sold as one, a rarity to find in the area. Yet instead of building one oversized house, RYA created two separate structures — a main house and a guest house/garage — on the property. This leaves space in the middle, creating an unobtrusive scale and an overall feel that’s the opposite of a garish mansion. The two buildings are laid out to position each living space, whether indoors or out, to maximize the views and capture the summer sun and breezes. Lake Montauk is the main event, but not the only one: Secondary, more sheltered spaces offer cozy contrast to the wide-open water... More

Berberis Boathouse

Wimshurst Pelleriti’s contemporary boathouse is a discreet but distinguished contribution to a historic estuary in DevonWimshurst Pelleriti has recently completed a new boathouse which lifts a 14 ft speedboat out of the water and stores it ready for a quick launch. Unusually, perhaps uniquely, the boat is stored in the specially designed eaves from where it is mechanically lowered 15 ft into the water, releasing the area below the boat for storage. The challenging brief required a modern and sophisticated piece of infrastructure to be sensitively inserted into the steep sided estuary of the River Yealm in Devon. Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with millennia old connection to UK maritime history, the area is highly protected... More

Point Lonsdale

Located in a sea side village this house is a site-responsive, contemporary home for a mature couple to enjoy into their retirement. In contrast to their previous grander homes on rural properties, the house is compact with a spatial generosity that expands to accommodate visiting grandchildren and various guests. The dynamic gable forms are inspired by the local context of former boathouses, using cambered trusses to create high ceilings while maintaining a low form below the coastal vegetation of the area. In conjunction with the client ambitions, the house also responds sympathetically to the somewhat restrictive site coverage and planning requirements associated with materials and scale, appropriate to its use in a bushfire area. T... House on the Archipelago

Sited at the northwestern tip of one of the “30,000 Islands” defining the eastern shores of Georgian Bay, the House on the Archipelago sprawls across the dramatic bedrock landscape of the Canadian Shield, surrounded by placid waters. Clad in pale grey stained cedar and topped with a similarly hued standing-seam metal roof, the low-lying sprawling form appears to emerge organically from the ground, its colour and materiality reflective of the granite bedrock and the trunks of the surrounding windswept conifers.Accessible by boat only, this seasonal family residence is well-used during temperate months. After several years of enjoyment, the owners commissioned superkül to design a full-scale renovation to the cottage to meet their evolving ne... More

Hood Canal Boat House

This building is the reimagination of an existing boathouse that had no windows, one door, and no charm. It is conceived as a building that can turn itself inside out, offering a protective layer of concrete and steel to the outside with the warmth of marine plywood on the inside. The oversized sliding doors extend well beyond the building to create sheltered spaces facing both sunrise and sunset. The retractable ladder allows the building to be used as winter boat storage and summer loft sleeping.Project Team:Architecture: Hoedemaker PfeifferInterior Design: Garrett Cord WernerContractor: Fairbank ConstructionLandscape: Leuner Landscape DesignsPhotography: Alex Hayden More

KLOSTERGARDEN

The boathouse, built in 1860, sits in a magnificent historical setting, close to Norway's best-preserved Monastery, Utstein Kloster, and the Klostergarden, a beautifully tended modern farm estate. The boathouse features traditional Norwegian arch-braced roof trusses, which share many details with the English Cruck design. As a protected building within a heritage site, the boathouse exterior has been preserved as authentically as possible. Inside, the Owner's desire to repurpose the building, creating a Farm Shop for the modern and dynamic estate, has driven the internal design. The challenge of the project was to deliver the desired new purpose with modern heating and comfort, while retaining the authentic ambience of the uninsulated and th... Hodgson Holiday Home

The clients requested that we create a boathouse feel for their new beach house - a place to relax with friends and family while making the most of the stunning views and natural landscape. From the road the development is not visible, sitting farther down the slope and screened by vegetation. From the sea the house is unobtrusive, cut into the slope achieving minimal disturbance and coloured dark charcoal to recede into the landscape. Clad in dark stained plywood and battens with a dark roof cladding, the house sits well in the existing landscape. The house has been designed with the bedroom wing in an east-west axis culminating in the master bedroom, commanding stunning views across the bay. The lower living wing stretching in a... More

The Slender House

Located in the beautiful region of the Eastern Townships near the US border in Quebec, the Slender House Residence unfolds in a long linear volume. Nestled on the steep shores of Lake Memphremagog it opens-up onto a peaceful secluded bay. Stéphane Groleau A Blade on the Rock This 4500-square-foot residence is solidly anchored in the rock thanks to its numerous stone retaining walls and paved terraces. Massive dry stacked, locally supplied granite volumes serve as bases on which rests an impressive 111 feet long roof with bladelike sharp edges. From the street, the roof literally becomes a fifth facade. Stéphane Groleau Precisely detailed to fit seamlessly within the black wooden exterior walls, a large garage door... More
