BZY Cultural Bookstore & Archive
"Bir Zamanlar Publishing" (BZY) is an institution dedicated to researching the diverse religious and cultural communities that have lived in Turkey. It collects visual and textual materials, aims to share this documentation with the public, and also organizes exhibitions and gatherings.

For this multifaceted institution, we designed a 13 m² space located on the basement level of the historic Hak Passage in Nişantaşı. The space was expected to accommodate book sales, workshops, and the display of unique objects. Rather than treating it as a conventional retail unit, we approached it as a hybrid space that combines the functions of a museum, archive, store, exhibition platform, and place of learning.

The client, son of an architect who passed away in 1971, studied architecture at FAU-USP (Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism - University of São Paulo) but did not finish the course. After practicing law in the field of copyright for many years, he decided to rekindle his old passion for architecture through a new venture: a bookstore specifically focused on architecture, urbanism, design, and landscaping.

Formgiving: A BIG moonshot for the future of architecture
“Formgiving. An Architectural Future History” is the third book in Bjarke Ingels Group’s Taschen series, following “Yes is More” and “Hot to Cold”. It should come as no surprise that the visionaries of BIG have some pretty provocative ideas about the future, going as far as what living on the Moon or Mars would look like.
