Alfenz Bridge

The entry to the Montafon Valley is a topographical bottleneck. The railway, the federal highway and the new cycling path offer access to the southernmost valley of Vorarlberg, which is surrounded by high Alpine mountain ranges. Running parallel with the valley, the raging Ill River, prone to flooding, crosses the Alfenz River from the east and channels the Alfenz River into its current. A few meters before the confluence, the new concrete bridge structure spans the tributary and grants pedestrians and cyclists safe passage. A supporting structure underneath was not possible because of the lay of the land and the required flood control. The solution to this problem was a covered bridge with load-bearing capacity on the lateral sides. Modell... More

bicycle- footbridge Vlinderbrug N18 Lichtenvoorde

The VlinderBrug or “Butterfly Bridge” is a pedestrian/cycle bridge which makes an elegant leap across the busy provincial highway. The shape refers to the butterfly emblem of Oost Gelre. The two wooden arches, filled with stretched mesh, suggest wings – the wings of a gigantic butterfly which has alighted over the N18 near Lichtenvoorde. More

Constantine Bridge

The concrete cable-stayed bridge will become a pivotal structure within the historical and hilly context of the city of Constantine. The bridge is designed with Constantine's pride in bridge construction in mind: it will be a beautiful monument from a distance, as well as a fine structure to walk over and drive across. The 130 m high pylons will be a reference point for people in the area, and the bridge will be visually exciting, day and night. The winding roads leading to the bridge reveal spectacular views from several points along the way. The bridge is relatively wide with 2 lanes and a sidewalk on each side. The pylons are centrally located, separating the carriageways to either side. The new bridge crosses the ravine above the... More

Skyttelbron Bridge

PLACE Skyttelbron is a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the railway tracks in Lund Central Station. There were already two connections between the west and east side of the railroad tracks. The first, on the south of the station area, is an underground passage, the so- called “Ryde’s passage.” The second, further north in height with Clemenstorget, is an open bridge. So Skyttelbron would be the third connection. This then becomes a closure of the station area to the north and will also connect to the New City Hall in the center of Lund. ABOUT DESIGN The three main ideas are: IDEA 1 COLOUR The first idea, and perhaps the strongest in terms of design is that we wanted to bring color in an environment where virtually everything is... Footbridge Candiac

Creating an experience worthy of a lasting memory With its new footbridge, the City of Candiac, located in the suburbs of Montreal, wished to establish a strong landmark while connecting its northern and southern sectors previously separated by a major highway. As the symbolic entry of this growing city, the footbridge had to be harmoniously integrated into the landscape. Designed for pedestrians as well as for cyclists, the footbridge draws its originality from an architectural concept that generates a sense of motion and energy, a kinetic and theatrical experience. The effect, for both highway and footbridge users, is created by the superposition of two reversed metal screens, located on either side of this link that spans the high... More

Sava footbridge

IN THE REFLECTION OF THE STARS The bridge built over the Sava canyon at Bled is intended for hikers - so that hikers can stop for a moment, experience new views, become aware of nature, breathe with the water, glance at the reflection of the moving stars at night and hear the river murmuring. It is a bridgewhere the world stops for a moment. A slight inclination, not easily perceptible, a shift in the axis of motion, a subtle backward surge - its motion being checked by the ends of the bridge on each side - and in an audacious trajectory the bridgeleaps from one bank to another. Schanerloch Bridge

Thoughts - Schanerloch Bridge The bridge through the Schanerloch gorge is part of the impressive road from the city of Dornbirn to the hamlet of Ebnit which picturesquely situated by the well of the river Dornbirner Ache at the foot of scenic mountains. The spectacular route to this ancient settlement area is characterized by a series of natural rock tunnels and stone bridges. Originating from the well known typology of the stone arch bridge, modern technology takes the geometry of the arch to its very limits. The reduction of the arch rise to a statically necessary minimum is combined with a twist along one axis. The latter is also responding to the bending road as a curve immediately follows the bridge in both driving directions. The res... More

Garden Bridge

Following Transport for London’s (TfL) tender for proposals to improve pedestrian links across the river, Heatherwick Studio and actor and campaigner Joanna Lumley have developed an idea for a new pedestrian ‘Garden Bridge’ across the River Thames; a scheme to connect North and South London with a garden. As one of the greenest cities of its size in the world, this precious new piece of landscape will add to London’s rich and diverse horticultural heritage of heathlands, parks, squares, allotments and community gardens and support many indigenous river edge plant species. The revival of the South Bank over the past two decades has created a vibrant and artistic district attracting large number of visitors to its art galleries, theatres,... More

Pedestrian Bridge

Span: 80 ft Located on a densely vegetated site in Lake Austin, the pedestrian bridge connects the main house on the property with a newly constructed guest house. With a design inspired by the reeds and other native vegetation that cover the shores of the lake, the bridge is a light and maintenance-free structure that is well-integrated within its wetland setting. The bars/reeds intertwine at the abutments and “grow” over the bridge, camouflaging it and transforming the bridge into a symbiotic, almost invisible link. The bridge is composed of three elements: Superstructure The arch structure spans 100 feet with a main span of 80 feet. It is composed of five nested five-inch diameter pipes that diverge gracefull... More

Passerelle de la Paix

The Passerelle de la Paix is a 220m-long bridge designed by Dietmar Feichtinger Architects and Schlaich Bergermann & Partner which opened to much fanfare on Monday 17 March. Arching elegantly over the Rhone River in Lyon, the 220m bridge provides a direct link between district six and the Park of Saint Clair at Caluire et Cuire. Residents can now enjoy a leisurely stroll across the water, selecting one of two routes; the first begins at quay level and is divided into a bicycle lane and footpath while the second walkway follows the lower arch of the structure and meets the top path in the centre of the bridge. At this point the structure widens from its standard 5m-wide span to 8m and offers benches for users to sit and enjoy the view.... More

HØSE BRIDGE

The bridge is located just north of the town Sand in the municipality of Suldal on the west coast of Norway. It is the result of extensive design process which started in 2008 after a design workshop together with Czech architect Ivan Kroupa where the inhabitants of Sand were given the opportunity to make a referendum over some of our initial ideas. The bridge connects the town to a vast wooden landscape which is used for recreation by the inhabitants of Sand. This new connection makes the areamore accessible for the general public and allows people of all generations to use the area. The idea behind the chosen proposal was to establish a horizontal reference line in the landscape, to emphasize the undulant and organic shapes in the... More
