Havenwood

Havenwood began with a family gift: a block of land in a quiet Brighton cul-de-sac. What followed tested the project at every turn—planning disputes, a drawn-out VCAT process, the collapse of the original builder, and ultimately a complete rethink of the design. From these challenges emerged a light-filled home that reconsiders the suburban backyard, placing nature, community, and long-term living at the forefront of everyday life. FCBStudios completes restoration of historic Brighton Dome Corn Exchange and Studio Theatre

Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios has completed the restoration of Brighton’s Grade I listed Corn Exchange and Grade II listed Studio Theatre, part of the city’s historic Brighton Dome arts venue. A new infill building in a former courtyard provides a foyer and gallery as well as public and support facilities. Conservation work on the two heritage buildings has peeled back many layers, restoring once hidden spaces, adding flexibility in terms of layout and accessibility, and updating the venues for a 21st century audience. The sweeping organic form of Bemmersyde Brighton responds to its coastal location, the surrounding landscape and the gentle curvature of the cul-de-sac in which it’s located.
