This project involves the renovation of a three-storey building in the port of Serifos. The building previously did not adhere to the local architectural tradition and had been abandoned for decades, gaining a reputation as a landmark of "ugliness." The main challenge, therefore, was to transform the building into something fresh, vibrant, and clean, erasing the memory of its negative image. Just like us, plants grow and buildings age. The process of decay in this particular case was natural. Concrete roof tiles fell into the building as purlins eroded and timber frames rotted away. Due to these structural damages, the roof opened up to the sky, and the floor reverted to earth. These three buildings, once used as a dormitory for factory workers, were abandoned as nearby factories closed. In a shrinking town, on a distressed building, humans were gradually replaced by wild plants. This decay gradually transformed the site into an interior garden, providing a sanctuary for plants. In the village of Lærdal, along the inner reaches of Norway’s Sognefjord, a former fenced-in warehouse from the 1980s has been transformed by MORFEUS arkitekter into a bakery and café. A new outlet for a health forward cafe has been designed by the Delhi based studio, Tangible Intangible Design Office or TI:DO as they are also known. Manana Cafés is a micro coffee roastery and coffee shop in Curitiba, with the purpose of bringing high-quality coffee and design products to everyone. The brand was developed by a young, creative, and entrepreneurial couple, with the premise of valuing the regional Latin culture. Initially, they sold coffee kits exclusively online.
