The residence, overlooking Oyster Pond in Chatham, transforms a historic farmhouse into a gathering place for modern living that takes full advantage of its elevated site, expanding and reorganizing interior and exterior living areas to maximize views to the ocean while drawing inspiration from elemental forms and the surrounding vernacular.

New England is populated with numerous examples of colonial-era structures that have endured for 200 to 300 years. Studio Whitehorse seeks to answer the question of how this typology can be updated and improved for the modern era. Based around the North American Passive House standard for energy efficiency, healthy living and resiliency in a four-season climate, this office, meditation space and music studio space over a partially-buried two-car garage seeks to answer that question.

HGA’s retrofit of the Marlboro Music Reich Rehearsal Building & Library retains Cape Cod vernacular while offering state-of-the-art facilities
Located in Vermont’s Green Mountains, the Marlboro Music Reich Rehearsal Building & Library at Marlboro College is an idyllic campus of retrofitted barn buildings that come from the tradition of the region’s 400-year-old Cape Cod vernacular. The College is known for hosting musical masters and promising young musicians at an annual seven-week festival.
