Technopolis auditorium

Design and construction supervision by architect Ioulietta Zindrou The design of the Auditorium is based on the conception of the space as a complex, though elegant “acoustic device”.  We crafted the space into a dynamic field through design innovations, technological applications and material processes in construction and management, towards an optimal passive acoustic space performance  Through advanced design, sound calculus and construction technology, algorithmic and material processes, a ceaseless dynamism between sculpturing and engineering emerged.  Caption Conceptually the auditorium was conceived as a place of creation and offer of cultural experiences, and is inextricably linked to visually rec... Konoba Ćakula

The Konoba Ćakula restaurant, is located in at Vladimira Nazor 7, near the Episcopal Complex of the Euphrasian Basilica in the Historic Centre of Poreč (Croatia) that is also a part of the UNESCO World Heritage. KORIDOR 27 My inspiration was the very word "Ćakula", which means "conversation" or "chat" in the Istrian dialect.I wanted to give the Istrian soul to the restaurant in a modern way using stone, micro concrete, corten and oak wood. KORIDOR 27 The ceiling that I designed and that was made by a hardworking team of carpenters consists of 3500 wooden cylinders of different dimensions that represent a lot of different conversations, which in most cases are all different. That's why I called those cylinders: "Ćakule".The penda... More

Bloomberg Tech Hub

This is Bloomberg’s first flagship Tech Hub on the West Coast. The new space, completed in May 2015, is both a workplace for Bloomberg’s software engineers and an event space to help foster connections between Bloomberg and Silicon Valley. Bruce Damonte The design juxtaposes new elements against the exposed raw materials of the building shell and translates the form and geometry of the exterior ornamentation. This approach contrasts the existing rough material palette of the exposed concrete and brick interior with a more refined combination of oak flooring and millwork, glass, steel and felt cladding. Bruce Damonte Upon entry, you encounter one of the main design elements: a porous wood “liner” that acco... More

160 Spear

IwamotoScott were approached with the challenge of re-positioning of 160 Spear Street, including the public lobby, public plaza and two entrances. The existing building is a commercial highrise from the 1980s that houses UC Extension on upper floors, in Downtown San Francisco. IwamotoScott The building has a through-block lobby connecting Main Street to the south and Spear Street to the north via a landscaped plaza that is one of the city's POPOS spaces (Privately Owned Public Outdoor Space). IwamotoScott Our design re-shapes and re-clads the existing lobby, transforming the dark and dated pink granite walls, low stepped ceiling and incidental reception desk into a more vibrant, flowing space. A mural artist created site-specifi... More

Pinterest HQ2

This newest Pinterest headquarters, in a new six story concrete structure in San Francisco's SOMA district, is positioned to create an urban campus with their earlier workspaces completed down the street. It is similarly inspired by the ongoing evolution of the company's web platform design - clean, simple, intuitive, and a canvas for creativity. The main lobby at ground level constitutes one of the city's POPOS spaces -- i.e.  a Privately Owned Public Outdoor Space. It is glassed-in, but has an operable corner that opens to a new landscaped mid-block alleyway (still under construction). Within this double-height lobby we designed a new cafe called The Point that is run by Pinterest. Similar to the earlier HQ design, a bespoke wood cei... More

Pinterest HQ

The new Pinterest headquarters is inspired by the redesign of the company's web platform — clean, simple, intuitive. One design goal was to create a space somewhat open-ended and slightly incomplete – so as to allow for interventions and installations by the Pinterest employees over time (continuing the strong D.I.Y. aspect of the company culture present since the early days). Another key concept that guided the project’s space-making concerns the notion and act of knitting (another core value/ethic of the company). In the design of the space, we explored how knitting could be interpreted in different ways – for instance, how the project could spatially ‘knit’ together the various communities within Pinte... Heavybit Industries

Heavybit Industries is a co-working space designed for early stage companies making cloud software developer products. The Heavybit program curates, fosters and promotes innovation and solution-finding through invited presentations, public events, education, advising, and inter-developer collaboration. The client brief aimed to transform the existing former warehouse into a collaborative workspace. This includes on the first floor a large kitchen, collective dining area for daily catered lunches that could double for speaker presentations, conference room, bike storage, and informal work areas; and on the two upper floors an open array of desks, comfortable and intimate meeting areas, bar height workspace and conference rooms. The client al... More

ONE KEARNY LOBBY / Lightfold

ONE KEARNY LOBBY / Lightfold, San Francisco, CA   Lightfold is a lobby design for the new One Kearny commercial development in the heart of downtown San Francisco’s Gallery District, adjacent to the museums of the Yerba Buena Arts District. The project is conceived and funded as architecture as public art, and constitutes the ‘percent for art’ requirement for the building as an integral piece of the architecture.   Lightfold is a fully functioning lobby and site-specific installation that draws its concept from the modulated ornamental surfaces found in San Francisco historic buildings such as the turn-of-thecentury building that is part the larger One Kearny project. It begins with coffers that traditionally... More
