Creating a hub for social and cultural enterprises through an innovative circular design approach. The Kaserne area –a former military barracks complex in central Basel– has undergone several transformations over the years, the most recent one has seen the prominent building become a leading hub of social and cultural enterprises in Switzerland. The main building of the Kaserne was renovated by Focketyn del Rio, opening it up towards the city and the river Rhine. Fluxdock, in partnership with Studio Banana, won a public tender organised by the City of Basel to become the operator of the space now called kHaus, including event and co-working facilities. Invited by Ghost Creative Productions, Colectivo Warehouse integrated a team of artists for the realization of an Arts and Ecology festival at Licée Galandou Diouf, a public school in the center of Dakar. Making infrastructure do more: MVRDV and StudioPOD complete One Green Mile in Mumbai

Recently completed in Mumbai, the One Green Mile project by MVRD and StudioPOD transforms a series of neglected spaces below the city’s Senapati Bapat Marg flyover into public space for the entire local community. In addition to adding much-needed greenspace and amenities, the project improves mobility and brings a strong visual identity to the area. On a broader scale, One Green Mile presents a sustainable urban development model and illustrates how underused urban space can be reimagined.
