Coastal Modern
On the rugged coast at Bandon, Oregon, Strand Design designed a retreat as two primary volumes joined by a glazed breezeway that frames the Pacific beyond. The house is shaped by weather, light and the long view, with sheltered outdoor spaces held between the ocean and a courtyard so the family can be outside even when the wind picks up.

Dark wood cladding wraps the exterior. A wood-clad entry opens to a glazed courtyard that holds a single tree, and skylit stairs and halls carry daylight through the plan. Living, dining and kitchen spaces unfold around framed ocean views and the sea stacks offshore, and open directly to terraces outside.

Crinkle Cut
Located on a corner site surrounded by pōhutukawa, this house epitomises perfect summer living in a picturesque coastal setting with a close-knit community.The façade is composed of horizontal weatherboards with a battened grid that sets the windows of the building in elevations that are constantly in the feathered shadow of trees – which is emblematic of our intention to design a house to harness the interplay of light and shadow.

Hidden House
Coastal Glazing for a New Build Home Embedded Within the LandscapeSet into the rugged landscape of Cornwall's north coast, Hidden House is a contemporary coastal residence designed by Loyn + Co Architects. Conceived as a low-profile structure that sits discreetly within its sensitive setting, the new-build home demonstrates how architecture can respond to a challenging environment while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.
Recently shortlisted for the Concrete Society Awards 2026, the project combines exposed concrete, natural materials and expansive areas of architectural glazing to create light-filled interiors with uninterrupted views of the dramatic coastline.
