ORN Denver by MAD Architects embraces a biophilic design concept inspired by Colorado's natural terrain
Designed by MAD Architects, One River North (ORN) is a 16-story mixed-use tower that embraces MAD's approach of blending the built environment with natural elements. ORN is characterized by a dramatic 'landscaped rift' that cuts through ten stories of the building's façade, creating terraces with lush greenery inspired by Colorado's natural terrain. The design echoes the Rocky Mountains and aims to transform urban living by introducing biophilic design principles to the city.

"Lean-Three" is a play on this concept and name, manifested in its three main volumes thoughtfully designed to provide comfort, functionality, and a deep connection to the surrounding landscape. Designed for clients who are passionate about the outdoors, biking, and cooking, the design caters to their adventurous lifestyle and love for fine dining.

Montezuma County Combined Courts
Kiva: / kēvə / n. A chamber built wholly or partly underground; used by Pueblo Indians for religious rites, political meetings, and spiritual ceremonies.
The true origins of southwestern architecture can be traced back to 1200 AD when the Pueblo people constructed a city in the recesses of the Mesa Verde cliffs in Montezuma County. These 4-story buildings contained multiple dwelling units, community gathering spaces, and Kivas surrounding central courtyards. The buildings were oriented to the south with mass walls and small apertures to respond to the intense desert heat and diurnal temperature swings.

Piano Forte
Pianoforte is a musical term referring to the variations in volume or loudness. Inspired by our clients’ love of all things with keys, the residence interprets the masculine form as ‘loud’ and the play of light as ‘soft’. The site required a strong response to the very active 1st Avenue to the south while transparency and perforations soften the form along Oneida Street. The L-shaped plan addresses the active corner while providing protection to the rear outdoor landscape. The entry becomes a gateway into this secret garden.
