Waka Huia

Waka Huia is a deeply personal renovation of a character villa on Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s harbour edge. Over more than forty years, its owner has filled the house with artworks, books, artefacts and family keepsakes, developing an instinctive understanding of rooms for art, entertaining and everyday life. The design continues this history. Original materials and crafted heritage details are retained and restored, with new work conceived in the same spirit of care, colour and longevity. Caption Caption On the ground floor, a reorganised plan brings the most frequently used rooms into morning light. The kitchen now occupies an open, central position connected to the dining room, garden and a verandah wrapping the north-east... More

Wabamun Lake Cabin

Situated on Wabamun Lake, Josh Kjenner Architect completes a contemporary cabin which offers a retreat for a young family an hour just outside of Edmonton. The homeowners—an academic and an entrepreneur—grew up spending summers at Alberta lake cabins and envisioned this as a place to recreate those memories for their two young children where kayaking, skating, hockey and tobogganing unfold through the seasons.Designed and built during the pandemic with budget in mind, the brief called for warmth and comfort, but without excess—something that felt like a true cabin while still accommodating big family dinners and weekends of hosting. The design distills these priorities into a two-storey compact form with three small bedroo... More

Casa Menta

Located in Koukaki, one of Athens' most vibrant residential neighbourhoods, Casa Menta is the renovation of a duplex apartment inspired by the colours, light and atmosphere of the Mediterranean landscape. The project began with the intention of transforming a conventional interior into a calm and contemporary living environment. Rather than introducing complexity through multiple materials and decorative elements, the design focuses on reduction. A continuous white architectural shell forms the backdrop of the apartment, reflecting natural light and creating a sense of openness throughout the two levels. Vasso Paraschi Vasso Paraschi Vasso Paraschi Functionally, the apartment was organized by preserving the shared living sp... More

Phae apartment

Located in the neighborhood of Kypseli, on Faethontos Street—from which the project takes its name, Phae—we were asked to redesign and radically transform the aesthetic identity of a 70 sqm apartment in a 2000s residential building. Vasso Paraschi Given the year of construction, the apartment did not possess distinctive architectural features worth preserving. We therefore approached it as a blank canvas that allowed for ample design freedom, while at the same time challenging us to fi nd clever ways to “mask” its aesthetic shortcomings through subtle design gestures. Vasso Paraschi Working within the constraints of a limited budget, our intervention left both the fl oor plan and the existing materials in... More

Kumudu Villa

Nestled amidst the lush greenery of Kalutara District, “Kumudu Villa” reimagines suburban living through a bold exploration of architectural purity and functionality. This 427 sq.m residence, set on a 24-perch plot, is an experiment in minimalist design and robust modern aesthetics, creating an intimate yet vibrant home deeply cherished by its occupants. Kith Studio Kith Studio Geometry as Philosophy The villa’s architecture is a deliberate composition of interlocking rectangular geometries, each form carefully juxtaposed to create a sense of unity and contrast. This spatial choreography reflects a philosophical dialogue between simplicity and complexity, resonating with the rhythms of suburban life while chall... More

Het Huis

On top of a polished concrete base raised slightly off the ground, a light, gleaming, green-painted steel construction unfolds to form a shelter to protect delicate works of art. The diagonal lines of passage through this new pavilion interweave Middelheim Park with the Hortifloria Garden, a recent extension of this well-known Antwerp sculpture park. Filip Dujardin Four vertical recesses provide the entrances to the pavilion, divide the space into four and allow in natural light. The difference in the height of the walls gives rise to a complex composite roof surface which, with its boxed ceiling, unifies the internal spatiality. Rubens Square

Rubens Square is a triangular square with a large opening towards the sea. Two long benches oriented parallel to the water are bordered by a wall of tempered glass which acts as protection from the wind. It is a particularly social place where elderly people often watch children play. The square’s tiles have a mosaic-like pattern with maritime tones that refer to the nearby sea. Blues, grey-greens and whites are interwoven like an abstract pointillist painting. Only the white tiles are strictly arranged diagonally. Filip Dujardin Filip Dujardin A difference in height of 1.2 meters makes the square slightly concave as if it were a stone wave washing up against the dike. Sculptures by Franz West are placed along two sides. Th... More

ZNA Cadix Hospital

Situated at the head of Spoor Noord, the hospital is a hinge between the park, the docks and the city, and thus benefits from each of their qualities. The limited surface area of the site requires the hospital to be organised vertically. The hospital structure has a clearly discernible layered construction. All outpatient activities with consultation rooms, centres of knowledge and medical technical services are in the lowest section. The various nursing units are located in an L-shape at the top of the pedestal, above which is the administrative block. This entirety is bisected horizontally several times by interweaving the building with its surroundings. The hospital anchors itself in the urban fabric by releasing the entire ground floor... More

Distant lights

ULTRATHINING Sines  A strange moment for the town of Sines to host Distant Lights, the rich work of Nuno Cera – a quasi-native of the place and someone who has travelled extensively, eyes wide open around the world. We are living a moment in history where the path of fossil energies has again made a turn … back, as the dramatic Ukrainian war seems to bifurcate towards an already confirmed anthropocentric destruction. How much Sines is reacting positively or negatively to this turn is unknown to us, but Nuno’s Distant Lights might have a broader and more urgent reach than what he initially imagined when starting the creative process of the exhibition, before the Ukrainian war. ©NunoCera The title of the s... Kuyasa Public Transport Interchange

This project deals with two responses. One Architectural, the other through Urban Design. These are intertwined to form a cohesive union. THE URBAN DESIGN CONTEXTThe project originated from an urban design study conducted by MEYER+VORSTER (now Meyer & Associates Architects & Urban Designers) to highlight the importance of the new Kuyasa Station as part of a future urban node in Khayelitsha. The City of Cape Town commissioned the same set of consultants to design a new transport interchange at this station to facilitate intermodal transfers. This facility was not only considered the focus, but also had to act as catalyst for future intensive urban development around the station. In an area where dire poverty is prevalent and the qu... Project • By Meyer & Associates Architects, Urban DesignersPrimary Schools

Heideveld Primary School

The concept of the new Heideveld Primary School complex was borne from constraints experienced as part of the previous school location and layout as well as from the decanting strategy and programme, which was integral to the roll-out and construction process. The site is fairly small and the existing school operation had to be accommodated on site while the new school was being built. This gave rise to a compact and simple plan form, focused around a shared central courtyard, and two secondary undercover courtyard spaces, one for the foundation phase classes in a single storey block and the other for intermediate and senior phase classes in a double storey block. The hierarchy of shared spaces is a theme that runs throughout the design of... More

Dunoon Primary School

Du Noon Primary School is a replacement school, built as part of the Department of Basic Education’s Accelerated School Infrastructure Development Initiative (ASIDI) Programme.   The Du Noon Primary School site is located within very dense urban fabric, with properties fully built up, and the narrow streets lined with informal spaza shops, crèches, and informal house extensions. With open space in Du Noon being an absolute luxury, the streets are true public spaces, where, out of necessity, pedestrians take precedence over motor vehicles. The existing school operation had to be accommodated on the site, while the new school was built. Hence the new school had to be accommodated on the limited area available outside the e... More
