Villa Earth

Villa Earth is conceived as a topographic extension rather than an autonomous object, emerging from the coastal slope of the Mediterranean landscape in Greece. The project explores the relationship between architecture and terrain, where built form becomes an integral part of the landscape rather than a distinct entity. Caption The composition is articulated through inclined planes, sharp geometries and cantilevered volumes that generate a controlled spatial tension. Geometry operates as a tool for organizing movement, light and views, establishing a dynamic dialogue between solid and fluid, land and sea. From certain perspectives, the villa resembles a sleek yacht, while from others it dissolves into the terrain, reinforcing its dual... More

T.08

A single-storey house arranged around a shaded court. The plan is held by two long walls that carry the roof and divide the site into served and serving ground.Openings are few and deliberate. Light enters through a narrow eastern slot in the morning and washes the plaster surfaces of the living room until midday, after which the house returns to shadow. More

Medburn Villa's

An exciting property consists of a sub-divided erf with two double dwellings. So, four units. Medburn Road - the best address in Camps Bay. Medburn road is close to the vibrant beachfront strip with restaurants, coffee baristas and bars. Yet immersed in the natural and rugged beauty of the mountains with sea views framed by the twelve apostles and Lion's head. There is very little to beat the accessibility to the city and beach. Jenny Mills Architects Jenny Mills Architects Jenny Mills Architects The design is a balance of complexity and simplicity; mountain views are as important as sea views. The spaces feel well-connected and generous. In addition, the layouts offer versatility for different homeowners and family configur... More

MAHTABI House

Mahtabi House, by the Iranian architect, Habibeh Madjdabadi, revives the local traditions, while in clear contrast with the surrounding buildings. Mahtabi, literally, “lit by the moon” in Persian, is the name of the Iranian traditional terraces, where the people use to sleep at night, while enjoying the summertime starry nights. Habibeh Madjdabadi Architecture Studio Plot is located outside the old town of Golpayegan, a city in the central part of Iran with mountainous and variable climate: warm in summer and cold in winter. The barren neighboring urban context is made of irrelevant newly built box-shaped residential buildings with poor quality grey stone facades. The architect says, “In the neighborhood there was... The Post Anthropocene

JOA is honoured to participate in the 2019 Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (Shenzhen). We have always taken the research led perspective as the starting point of the design, trying to discuss the story behind the architecture in greater depth, and present it to the public through the exhibition. Our understanding of the future world is more based on the perspective of architecture rather than sci-fi movies. The premise of envisioning the future is actually to discuss the current social pain points, and then come up with critical reflections in a future dimension, which we call "The Post Anthropocene” project. In 2002, Nobel Prize-winning chemist Paul Crutzen published an article in Nature, for the first time officially pr... More

LaLa Bridge

The Harbor in Los Angeles’ Marina Del Rey is the largest man-made small craft harbor in the world, which is a valuable resource if you are a boater. Unfortunately for a cyclist or pedestrian, the Marina breaks the existing pathway connecting the North and South route. Cyclists and pedestrians who want to experience the Los Angeles urban coastline must make a lengthy detour around the Marina, hindering the quintessential LA experience of cycling or walking along the Santa Monica Bay. To solve this problem, we are proposing a new pedestrian and bike path that bridges over the harbor entrance. The pathway is a five percent sloped spiral ramp that is nestled within a latticed shell structure. It was generated by lofting two rotated ellipses alon... More

Wisconsin Avenue Restaurant Study

This project, initiated in 2016 for a local Latin restaurant chain, studied connecting the interior to the exterior, integrating the ambience of Cartegena, and allowing patrons to be seen, yet partially obscured with a series of hanging metal mesh screens. More
Architecture and the landscape. The northern facade mostly consists of a roof slope falling to the plot border - the house’s wall is low and closed here. Supplementary rooms are at the northern side.
The southern wall is high and includes openings such as glazing, terrace and loggia, which provide the panoramic view.
3 levels - In the south, the house opens up to the garden, the sun and the view of the mountains

Black Rock

IDEA The main idea was to create something different and original. Not just a single-family house, but an abstract form. We wanted to create a building that refers to the mountainous area, a house that seems to be a result of tectonics and not design processes. MUS ARCHITECTS photo Tomasz Zakrzewski This thought was the starting point of the project and the frame that kept the space composition in check. Therefore, we tried to design and implement the concept of a space by escaping the standards associated with single-family houses. We wanted this house to emeryt like an erratic boulder embedded in a mountain slope, not an architectural form with walls, windows and a roof. MUS ARCHITECTS photo Tomasz Zakrzewski FORM "Black R... ISMOF - International School Museum of Flamenco

STRUCTURE OF EMOTIONS - FEISTY FLAMCENCO Movements and gestures of dancers are full of expression and tension. Dancers bring the fascinated viewer into an internal world of experience and emotion through the swinging movement of their hips, decorative arrangement of their fingers and smooth vibration of the ornamental frills. Rhythmic and dynamic music transmits the spectator into a world of incredible aesthetic feelings awakening all senses and inflaming the imagination… ….This is how architecture dedicated to the culture of feisty flamenco should look like…. Form Site management and building form reflect the flamenco spirit. Interior and exterior spaces of ISMOF building were created through the sculptural interpretation of the... More
