Peppertree Villa

At the summit of Bellevue Hill a centennial Peppertree rises over the skyline;two homes lie beneath its vast canopy.  To one side of the fence, The Oculus House and to the other, Peppertree Villa, a skilfully designed late 1920s home.   One day the owners of the two homes met under this tree; they discussed botany and architecture.  This was how Luigi Rosselli Architects came to be selected to respectfully revive and refresh this beautifully designed residence.   During the 1920s, while Europe sought to wash away the trauma of World War I through radical architectural styles such as constructivism and cubist inspired modernism, Australia chose to find comfort in the familiarity of classicism.    Mediterra... Abdullah Gül Presidential Museum and Library

The buildings that were renovated as the Presidential Museum and Library are just the two of the many units that formed Sumerbank Textile Factory, in Kayseri, Turkey. Built between 1933-1935 and designed by Russian architect Ivan Nikolaev, this production facility has been one of the most significant symbols of industrialization and modernization in Republican period of Turkey. After its close down in 1999, the industrial complex, containing unique examples of Russian Constructivism, has gained modern monument status and in 2012 registered to AGU, a new established university to be its main campus area. EAA has been working on this incredible industrial heritage since then, some of the buildings in the complex have been refurbished and curr... More

Sazha meat restaurant

Sazha - it's a meat restaurant in Sumy, focused on developing the culture of consumption of steaks in the city. The restaurant's building, like the whole architectural ensemble of the street where it is located, is an example of Soviet constructivism. Therefore, in our opinion, it was the quite logical decision to realize the interior of restaurant in a modern style, departing from the principle of the classic steakhouse. A picturesque Ukrainian name "Sazha" (soot - is a black powder mass that is deposited in the furnaces, chimneys owing to incomplete combustion of fuel) became both a starting point for creating the atmosphere of the restaurant, and bright reflection of its overall concept. The restaurant's interior is realized in bla... More

Gary Tatintsian Gallery

The Gary Tatintsian Gallery, which opened in Moscow in 2005, after its founder moved to Russia, has acquired new premises, which are developed by the design bureau, SPEECH. In his work, the gallery owner emphasizes new art media formats, as well as photography and conceptual design, with clear allusions to the ideas, forms of constructivism, and the avant-garde of the last century. The interior of the new gallery was created with regard to and under the influence of these art and architecture trends. The gallery occupies the whole ground floor in the Art House complex on the Yauza. The floor area (875.77 m²) accommodated three spacious exhibition halls (and another 180.44 m² hall in the basement), and a working area for gallery personnel... More

La Muralla Roja

Within the context of the La Manzanera complex and the combination of cubes in space, the building known as La Muralla Roja asks to be considered as a case apart. On the one hand, it embodies a clear reference to the popular architectures of the Arab Mediterranean, in particular to the adobe towers of North Africa, and to a reinterpretation of the Mediterranean tradition of the casbah. At the same time, the labyrinth of this recreated casbah corresponds to a precise geometric plan based on the typology of the Greek cross with arms 5 m (16’) long, these being grouped in different ways, with the service towers (kitchens and bathrooms) at their point of intersection. The geometric basis of the layout represents an approximation to the theories... More

AGU City Campus

AGU City Campus Masterplan Sumerbank Textile Factory, built in 1933 by a group of Russian architects led by Ivan Nikolaev in Kayseri, has been one of the most important symbols of industrialisation and modernisation move in Republican period in Turkey. After its shut-down in 1999, the industrial complex, consisting of the buildings which are unique examples of Russian Constructivism, has been left abandoned inside the city until its consignation to Abdullah Gül University to be transformed into a new campus with educational and administrative facilities. The main motivation of the masterplan is to open this complex (once acted as a main generator for the city in both economic and social ways, thus having a huge impact in urban memory)... More

reconstruction of theatre

Malá scéna (Společenský dům) was built in the year 1937 according to the architect Karfík design. At the time of its construction, it was a peculiar architectonic object lying somewhere between the Zlín industrial tradition and the constructivism of Russian avant-gardes. For this reason, it keeps a unique position in the Zlín architecture, as besides the Baťa monument and the skyscraper, it was the next building free of routine scheme and more looking up to examples of that time. The first feature of the "material-free glowing house for workers to relax“ was based on its first mission. Here was a cinema, shops and library in the ground floor and gymnasium and cafe with bowling in the first floor. The gymnasium and cafe with bowling were can... More
