Enjoy an outdoor café feel in the water

A sunny yet sheltered spot, thanks to the Renson Camargue Johan Ons (ONS Tuinarchitectuur) can proudly look back on a unique project in Bierbeek. A 20-year-old garden, including a gigantic swimming pond, was given a facelift. Sitting in the middle of the water, the residents can look out over the water’s surface from the cosy comfort of a sunken lounge. An open space sheltered from sun, wind and rain by a Camargue patio cover. Johan Ons: “The owners specifically wished to enjoy an eye-level view of the water surface of the pond around them from their patio seats. So, when creating the total design of their garden, we provided for a sunken patio surrounded by water, where the windows in the side walls even gave them a view belo... More

Residential Dry Below Deck

Situated overlooking an Alpharetta, Georgia Lake in an upscale neighborhood, plans for this beautiful residence included a new dry-below deck and pool addition. The lower deck had not been used to its potential. Once the new pool was installed, that lower deck would become a much-desired poolside entertainment area. In their search for a waterproof solution, they found the perfect product to enhance the upper deck and keep the lower deck dry – Duradek.  Duradek Ultra Heritage Agate was installed as an attractive dual solution. The walkable waterproof membrane created a covered poolside patio below and a low maintenance sundeck above, perfect for entertaining on both levels. In addition, the homeowners wanted a new, maintenance... More

W. Mary Residences

These four garden courtyard houses embody the feel of south Austin’s eclectic and casual lifestyle. Taking cues from the local neighborhood, the 2-story primary units facing the street are styled in a traditional vernacular form while the rear 1-story accessory dwelling units (ADU’s) take on a low-slung mid-century modern form. Solid (insulated) stack-bonded architectural grade CMU (concrete masonry unit) walls define the ADU’s (accessory dwelling unit) exterior walls which carry through to the interior. Heavy mass gabion walls create privacy and natural garden planter walls. More

Lapure

The stylish, minimalist Lapure consists of a windproof, waterproof, sun protection screen roof that rests on elegant, discrete aluminum columns with no disruptive lateral connection. It is anchored to an existing façade. When the roof is closed, the Lapure provides protection from the sun, wind, and rain. When the roof is open, you can enjoy the sun as the delicate structure is not visually disruptive. There are two types of columns for the Lapure: ‘end columns’ with water drainage (via side channels and columns). Or you can also opt for ‘shifted columns’ (with roof overhang and water drainage via gutters, even when half-open). The latter has a roof overhang that juts out past the columns to provide the optimu... More

Leaning Timber Haus

Sited on a hilltop overlooking a 2-acre property, this contemporary residence has a Zen-like, quiet feel at the approach but expands toward the garden to provide for outdoor living and entertaining. Exposed timber framing expresses structural lines of force and gives warmth to the house. Timber and stone lend themselves to an organic expression of the structure growing out of the contour of the ground; this natural expression is carried through to the interior of the home. Wide sliding glass doors along with glazing of corners and of the full height of spaces blur the distinction between inside and outside. More
