Hotel Complex in Chania

The Landscape as a Starting PointThe Hotel Complex in Chania draws its identity from two defining characteristics of the site: uninterrupted views towards the Cretan Sea and the natural slope of the terrain. The development follows the existing topography, allowing the individual volumes to integrate naturally into the landscape while maximizing views across the complex. A central objective of the design was to make the horizon a constant presence throughout the guest experience rather than a feature reserved for selected spaces. Outdoor areas, openings and circulation routes form part of a unified spatial strategy that allows the landscape and the sea to accompany visitors from the shared amenities to the accommodation areas. Corte Interna

A complex of three stone-built buildings is located west of the city of Chania in the village of Kalivani, near Balos. Built on a plot of 420 sq.m., the buildings, measuring 220 sq.m., are arranged around an inner courtyard with water as the connecting element between the building volumes. Pointed arches, doorways with semicircular or low-arched lintels reveal the Venetian imprint on Cretan architecture. Cocoon Villas, Crete

* Within the boundaries of a purely tourist settlement on the northern coast of Crete, the refurbishment of a group of 4 incomplete residences, without existing landforms, and their conversion into a complex of luxury holiday villas, led to contemporary architectural approaches in a seemingly unaltered shell, by re-developing the dialogue with the landscape at varying scales.The natural terrain, among olive trees and in sparse or no vegetation, is uphill from the road level, with a rapid incline in its middle and milder at the top, where the residences are located.Due to the limited ability of intervention in the building shells, elements that have the character of "mantle" are used, contributing to the reformation of the volume o...
