Set within a 14-acre family estate on the outskirts of Kozhikode, Soil Stories occupies a 60-cent site within a campus that was already ecologically rich long before architecture entered the frame. The larger landscape contains three kaavus (sacred groves), a wetland system, and dense native tree cover, together generating a distinct microclimate. This living terrain supports diverse native inhabitants, with the potential for many more establishing the site as an active ecological system rather than a neutral backdrop. The site is located west of Guangzu Park, east of Guangzu South Road, south of Jikang Road, and north of Danzi East Road in Kengzi Street, Pingshan District. The site is divided into two plots—north and south—with a distance of over 130 meters between them, covering a total area of 21,543 square meters. The northern plot includes a six-story building above ground and two basement levels, housing the Pingshan District Science and Technology Museum and a Book Mall. The Cultural Centre in Bourg-la-Reine lies on a narrow plot right next to a high embankment upon which a regional trainline runs. This plot is L-shaped and leads out onto a small road hidden away. To build a public centre, such a plot seemed far from ideal. So building an edifice on this plot called for a design with which the structure could stand out as a public building and find a legitimate place between the vegetation-covered embankment and the neighbouring homes. Today, 8 Marvila has become a place where art, culture, commerce, bars, and restaurants converge, offering a true cultural haven for both residents and visitors to Lisbon. The Nuhad Es-Said Pavilion for Culture, an extension to the National Museum of Beirut, is a space dedicated to creative artistry, the dialogue between art and culture, as well as the importance of remembrance. Its mission is to celebrate and disseminate Lebanon's cultural wealth through innovative programs, bold exhibitions, and strong community involvement.
