Digital materiality

Task: The appraisal of the façade in Summer 2004 intended the development of a façade concept for the planned heightening of the multi-story can park at ‘Salvatorplatz’ in Munich. In the context of the reconstruction of an office and garage building the multi-story car park has been increased by 21/2 floors. In the view of the historical surrounding and the inventory building, which stands under single monument and under monument protection and lies in embraced of an ensemble range, the organization of the new façade has been of great importance. This temporary, interactive installation was based on the concept of ‘complex systems’ which can observe, perceive and research our living world, society and biology. Virtual architecture is embedded into various cities and regions within Google earth projected onto the floor, within the internal space of the installation. Motion sensors track the movement of the audience within the internal space, and the projectors respond according to these inputs. By using this interactive technology, members of the audience can trigger and control the projected scene by changing the displacement of their own body or altering the distance between each other within the projective regions. Crouching giant digital tigers head for Singapore Two giant digital tigers are in Singapore as part of the Smart Light Festival on 15 October until end November 2010. The idea A drop of water creating a series of ripples became the metaphor for transforming space through movement. Just as the ripple causes intricate moiré patterns in water, Corian® Super Surfaces is about revealing the moment of change through visual complexity, creating dynamic kinetic effects. Moving through the space appears to animate it. Views are revealed and concealed as the surfaces transition between active and passive states creating countertops, display shelving, seating and a partition that seamlessly morphs from solid to transparent.
