In this eclectic penthouse, designed for a couple of art collectors, different colors mark different functional areas. Every detail was thought and created on the desire of a comfortable, intimate, and tidy home. "The intervention involved a 140 sqm apartment, not far from the historic center of Monza, with the original 70s/80s layout characterized by a full-height glass facade, common to the entire building. The strong fragmentation of the spaces with respect to the large area required an intervention aimed at radically rethinking the living area, made into an open space, through the creation of a large living room in direct communication with the dining and kitchen area. In Amsterdam's Nieuw-West district, the site of the former police academy has been redeveloped into a neighborhood with plots for private housing. The future residents had a clear idea of what the house should look like. It had to be a modern house with a bold appearance. Marcel van der Burg The design consists of a main volume with a sloped roof combined with a lower extension with a flat roof. The sloping roof is relatively steep at the front. The steep angle combined with the large dormer reaching over two floors give the design its distinct character. This eclectic interior which Maya Baklan risked to design for her own family can be called ‘touching’ in emotional and tactile sense. You feel like hugging a tweedy sofa by Roche Bobois, petting the ‘Little Petra’ sheep-chair by &tradition and listening to the whisper of Verpan lamp’s iridescent mother of pearl disks. The contrasts in the hallway are derived from constructivism: blue and orange remind the visitor of the basic colors from an old plasticine box. Floor-to-ceiling windows are borrowed from French style, the distinctive lights are Scandinavian.
