Witoca Lab
Facing the options of urbanizing the jungle, deforestation for monoculture, or creating intangible protection zones, there is another option: the chakra. The chakra is a Kichwa concept and, above all, a model of ancestral agroecology based on high biodiversity. This model of land use and management achieves the double goal of conserving the ecosystem while simultaneously producing within it. This strategic approach is the one adopted by Witoca to drive social, economic, and environmental sustainability. The project is located in the community of Huaticocha, in the buffer zone of the Sumaco Biosphere Reserve, in the Ecuadorian Amazon.

Terraza al río
At 1,250 meters above sea level, in a lower montane forest on the eastern foothills of Llanganates National Park—at the northern edge of Pastaza Province—there exist around 800 species of vascular and endemic plants.
Among them are palm species such as chonta, pambil, and killi: natural resources that have long shaped the identity and imagination of ancestral Amazonian peoples, widely used as structural pillars in their vernacular constructions.

Breakroom in the Orchard
The Breakroom in the Garden was born when an international environmental consulting company, located in the Cumbayá valley in the city of Quito, needed a new breakroom for its workers. The client’s main requirement was the conservation of the existing vegetation in the backyard of the offices, where the project was to be located.

Casa Palto
The Palto House, located in Tumbaco, is a single-family house designed for a young couple in Quito-Ecuador. The site where it is implanted is located in a corner lot, with plenty of endemic avocado trees, locally called Paltos. The shade that these majestic trees project is an extraordinary resource for keeping the temperature down especially on a sunny day, a common occurrence in the area, as for the fruit of the trees, the avocado is very valued.
