The project involved the renovation of an early 20th-century building between party walls, listed under File 25 (Nuevos Riegos El Progreso) and structurally protected, to adapt its interior for contemporary administrative use. The work was limited to the redistribution of the ground and first floors (175.35 m² usable space), the renovation of finishes, and the restoration of unique elements, while preserving the building envelope, the protected façades, and the configuration of the central courtyard. The project began with a commission to carry out a small renovation of an existing house, located in a very special setting, nestled within an urban palm grove. However, it was this very element that transformed the project into a complete renovation, aiming to create spaces that open up to the surrounding landscape and maximize the potential of the existing volume. David Frutos Externally, the house's volumetric configuration, defined by its strong transverse walls, is maintained and even reinforced through the use of gray travertine cladding with vertical panels, designed for seamless integration with the existing vegetation. Phase 1 of the Elche Neurodevelopment Institute is the first completed building in a four-phase complex dedicated to early intervention, family support, and specialized early childhood education. Conceived as a single-story pavilion, this initial building blurs the boundary between interior and exterior to create a calm, accessible, and perceptually welcoming therapeutic environment. The Children's Health Foundation sought a space capable of supporting children's development through observation, interaction, and emotional comfort. A hospital has not to look like a hospital; his architecture can be functional and beautiful at the same time. Maybe the clue is to reduce the decorative resources and work the aesthetic expression more rational. We have been playing with different volumes with cubic shape, trying to break the monotonous surface that usually this kind of buildings have. More

The city of Elche is carrying out its biggest and most relevant projects during one of the worst economic crises: the Mirador del Palmeral (Palm Grove Viewpoint), the regeneration of the riverbanks, etc. This could result in the design of more intelligent projects with more substantial and clearer development strategies that could have never been conceived in the maniera of the previous economical context.
