KAPKAR / TO-RXD | Landscape Observatory
Time, architecture and transformation. A look at the result after ten years of patience.
René de Wit
In the gently rolling Brabant landscape in the Netherlands just to the west of Sint-Oedenrode lies the hamlet of Rijsingen. Close by, at a spot where the Dommel River has cut through the sandy soil since time immemorial, stands the KAPKAR/ TO-RXD landscape observatory, built in 2009. It forms part of a hiking trail that starts in the village centre and leads into the farmland around the settlement.

In 2009 Studio Frank Havermans developed a special tree bark casting. The skin of the concrete is coarse and rough like the nearby trees. A feature of this is the bark, left behind in the concrete after the fo... More

Two Spaces Two Moments
The pavilion 2 spaces 2 moments is the duality in which the outer space, the large scale space on everyone’s sight, captures the attention of pedestrians with a powerful yet small light threshold, inviting them to discover what is beyond, creating the first moment. The inner space is the second moment of the experience. Inside this small and quiet place made by a geometrical complex surface formed with more than 60 triangle pieces and 1,800 joints, 2 facing mirrors highlight the perspective inside the pavilion, while color and different kinds of lighting nurture this experience and create an endless loop of the inner space. The serenity of the pavilion contrast with the dynamics of geometry, perspective and fullness of color. More

BA.SALT
In this particular pavilion, we propose certain dialectics that articulate the project, such as the one established between personal expression versus functionality or between known materials versus new materials.
In the projects we do, we are aware of the zeitgeist that makes them possible. We believe that by knowing this condition we can see more clearly which parts or elements of the project have greater doses of sensitivity to time.
In the pavilions, in general, we can see a certain audacity arising from the lack of permanence, the will to explore and experience that arises from the apparent lesser responsibility that is expected from a temporary construction, an event with a definite time. However, we must ask ourselves if this has t... More

Camino a la Piedra
In this project we worked with the idea of variable context as the main axis of the design process. This idea, although widely debated, is far from being finished. Especially when we understand the idea of context from different angles and beyond the usual notions that have to do with sites or with sociocultural backgrounds. We consider that the material aspects, and the atmospheres that can arise from them, suppose a source of concepts that can perfectly be considered as contextual. These atmospheres can be deliberately sought, presenting by itself a form of context. They can also be the unintended result of a series of design operations, also acting as contextual variables. This work, dedicated to meditation, aims to achieve a s... More
