Holcim and partners launch Phoenix, a pioneering and circular 3D printed concrete bridge

Swiss-based global building materials and aggregates company Holcim has launched Phoenix, a pioneering and circular 3D printed concrete bridge. Striatus: ETH Zurich’s Block Research Group collaborates with Zaha Hadid Architects to develop efficient, accessible, and sustainable tools for structurally informed design

ETH Zurich’s Block Research Group (BRG) seek to disrupt architectural construction technologies through using a geometry-based approach to tackle complex structural design and engineering challenges and to develop efficient, accessible, and sustainable tools for structurally-informed design. In collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects’ Computation and Design Group (ZHACODE), 3D printing innovators incremental3D, and sustainable infrastructure evangelists Holcim, they have created “Striatus”, a 3D Concrete Printed (3DCP) arched pedestrian footbridge showcasing a high-tech take on traditional masonry.
