OIMON KAGOSHIMA STORE
This is the first store of the OIMON (オイモン) brand, perfecting the art of new “sweet potato treats”, integrating local ingredients and food culture of Kagoshima Prefecture. Its signature product is a freshly baked sweet potato cake with the flavor of komikan (small mandarin oranges). Upon designing the store, we visited local producers and factories within the prefecture, traveling around sweet potato fields, sweet potato processing factories, craft gin distilleries, and Sakurajima komikan orange groves. The highlight of our research trip was the sight of sweet potatoes being pulled out from the fertile soil of Kagoshima. Bake Cheesetart Kyoto Kotochika Store
This was an interior design completed after the design for Abeno Harukas shop and Sogo Kobe by Yagyug Douguten. It is located in the underground shopping center of Kyoto Station, “Kotochika Kyoto” where many tourists come to visit, not to mention many visitors from foreign countries in recent years. For this shop, a seating area was also provided so that freshly baked cheese tarts can be enjoyed with Japanese tea unique to Kyoto.
The aroma and astringency of the tea pairs well with the sweet cheese tart. It creates a round and rich flavor melting together inside the mouth. PRESS BUTTER SAND Tokyo Station Store
“Press Butter Sand” is a new type of confectionery made with selected ingredients by a unique method called hasami-yaki. Confectionaries made by sandwiching them between iron plates can only be made in small quantities. I was fortunate to be involved from the branding stage of the products to the design of the first shop. The location is along the bustling walkway in Tokyo Station, and its floor area is only about the area of a kiosk. Therefore, the time for customers to interact with the shop is very limited. It is essential to promote the brand as much as possible in a very short amount of time, and for this we decided to narrow down the information to a single theme.

SEN nihonshu / ten hyogo
Kasai City in Hyogo Prefecture is the production area of Tamba black beans and Yamadanishiki rice which is used as a raw material for sake. The client was a married couple in their 30s who succeeded a farming business there. While there are still very few sakes that identifies the rice producers, sake rice farmers and sake breweries have partnered to produce a sake made from a single farmer, a so-called single origin sake production. The request was to design a space that conveys the concept of “single origin sake.”

BAKE CHEESE TART Kobe Store
“Bake Cheese Tart” is a freshly baked cheese tart specialty shop, and was designed by our design firm following the Abeno Harukas shop. Although the intentions were to create a pleasant mis-matched atmosphere in the department store setting, it was also intended to incorporate the history and uniqueness of this area where the shop is located into the design.
There is a steel plate called electro-galvanized steel plate (commonly known as bonderized steel) used inside the body of desktop PCs and for paint base of household appliances. Horiuchi Fruit Farm Osaka Cafe
A second shop was planned after the one in Nara, the home of “HORIUCHI FRUIT FARM,(堀内果実園)” in Grand Front Osaka, a commercial facility in the redevelopment area of Osaka Station North. Here, we wanted to express in the space the fact that the products are delivered from the farm to the city and the uniqueness of the domestically made dried fruits products.
It is said that when the Pyramid was being built, the large stones were placed onto the logs and were rolled across. The logs are the primitive form of the wheels, and by adopting them, we would like to use it as a starting point to convey the meaning of “carrying” and the place where the products come from. “SHOEBOYS” is a shoeshine and leather shoe shop run by Subaru Okuno, known as the YouTuber “Okkun,” whose shoe-shining videos are popular among the young generation. This shop is, so to say, an attempt to emerge from the virtual world of the Internet to a real, physical world. It was designed in the midst of the new coronavirus pandemic when shopping at brick-and-mortar stores was difficult. Although online shopping is becoming more and more sophisticated, Suzuki believes people definitely still enjoy visiting physical stores.

BAKE CHEESE TART Abeno Harukas Store
The heat and scent of freshly baked cheese tart was expressed with galvanized surfaces emitting yellow, gold and rainbow burnish. The contrasting variants of the sizzling sensation; the hard and industrial plating and sweet and soft cheese tart, were portrayed. The shop is located in a downtown area known for both its good old metal factories and historic temples; an area where architectural hardware is galvanized next to a galvanized Buddha statue.
A “pleasant mismatch” was created inspired by local history and material, in hopes to trigger interest to the region as well as the product.
