The team at Tom Pigeon love playful geometric design and this project was an exciting opportunity not only to explore this aspect of their practice but also to investigate the historic colour palettes and classic patterns from the V&A collections. Taking inspiration from domestic Victorian hallways, they started to play with modern interpretations of traditional square and border tiles. ARRANGE is a white bodied, ceramic wall tile collection of five geometric designs available in seven colours (150x150mm) which can be used alongside coloured square (150x150mm) and rectangular (75x150mm) tiles. The colours have a subtle gloss finish to contrast with the matt of the cool grey. The designs are bold yet simple and can be used in infinite c... More

Café Got bar design embraces the urban vitality of Barcelona

With a long and active façade facing the street, Café Got is a spot where the city of Barcelona and Hotel Kimpton Vividora come together, inviting the community in. Credit: One Represent Agency The designers, El Equipo Creativo, were inspired by Ciutat Vella, and more specifically the Gothic Quarter and its street atmosphere, where little narrow streets lead you to unexpected plazas, patios, and entrances to residential buildings and stone, greenery and water are material essentials. It was decided to introduce these same elements to the design of the bar. Credit: One Represent Agency A double-height space with a cascade of glass lamps connects with the lobby area on the first level bringing a fresh and watery effe... More

JEC Bldg.

Although situated in the heart of Tokyo, the Yoyogi area retains much of its natural environment. The area is also home to numerous properties belonging to the client who engaged us to design this office building.    Given the site’s visibility from the train station, we opted for a design that incorporates open space on the eastern (station) side to emphasize the abundant natural features of the Yoyogi area. Yoyogi was named after a great fir tree that stood in the area for generations. Our design also sought to create a ‘tree’ that would serve as a local symbol.Borrowing the ‘Y’ from Yoyogi, we created the undulating patterns that give the building its three-dimensional frontage.   Combined... Moderne Collection

The Inspiration Behind The Moderne Collection by Philippe David: “I drew the different sets of lines with crayons. Racine’s curves are a take on the natural marks left by water on a sandy beach. It is also meant to evoke a Zen garden or the streamlined shapes of modernist architecture in Palm Springs. Germain features a diamond design inspired by Caribbean and African geometric patterns. Lastly, Tournon is a play of interrupted lines, like random needles, which have fallen from a pine on a Greek island.” – Philippe David More

Mercure Hotel, Saransk

TaskTo have the interior tell an authentic story of the locale, to create a design that is in harmony with the special characteristics of the local environment and the culture of its residents, which are the values that the Mercure brand supports. As does our studio. ChallengesThe hotel has split-level architecture. Every room has a different layout and different window levels, which is why we had to create an individual design for each room. IdeaTo include the carved patterns of the Mordovian folk craftwork and elements of the mythology of Mordovia’s ethnic groups in the modern architecture of the hotel. Geometric patterns and shapes of interior details and decorations blend with the broken lines of the building, creating a harmoni... More

Eurythmy Building

Casa Da Lila

A complete re-do project with special official built heritage department approval of a single family house, built on the fifties, with modern lines, and located in the heart of the historical center of Silves, Algarve, Portugal.  Basically the existing situation was on a full ruin state, all materials collapsing indoor and outdoor. Due to the restricted permissions on this historical protected area of the city, the main concept was based on restoring the street northern facade, keeping the height on the rebuild red tiled roof, apply new wooden framing and renewing the coloring, therefore the built identity and layout of the ‘house’s face’ was kept. Balancing with three terraces on different levels (floors), facing t... More
