Just minutes from the breathtaking Alentejo coastline in Portugal, this eco-friendly project encapsulates a vision of conscious tourism and it is a collaboration between desirelines studio and nu-he studio. It offers visitors an opportunity to relax, recharge, and reconnect with nature and the earth. The rural lot features two existing houses, each accompanied by its own orchard, located just a few meters from the main residences. Maison de la Luz from Atelier Ace is a new luxury guesthouse designed in collaboration by EskewDumezRipple and interior design firm Studio Shamshiri. The design team worked in tandem to transform the legacy six-story, 55,464-square-foot former City Hall annex into a sophisticated destination. Located in the warehouse district near Lafayette Square, the 1906 building was originally designed by Allison Owen of Diboll and Owen Architects in the Italianate style, typical of turn-of-the-century buildings in New Orleans. Three axes form the basis for the guesthouse: public, private, and the relationship of earth to sky. These three axes respond to the site’s topographic undulations, rotation in plan and vertical hierarchy as the landscape slopes up to a gentle hill.  The public axis connects the entry point to an exterior hot springs pool accessed through an underground channel. Beyond the massive entry walls sits a shared dining space with scattered intimate gathering spaces warmed by firewood. At the intersection of the public axis and the vertical axis sits a viewing deck at roof level to admire the Northern Lights. Guesthouse project in Izery Mountains involves conversion and expansion of existing farm houses in order to create group of buildings serving as a private house with several rooms for rent, garden pavilion, alpaca farming and service building with garage, creating multifunctional habitat for owners and guests. The place, a few meters from the Obidos Lagoon, is characterized by pine trees and dense vegetation of the Natural Ecological Reserve park to the South, creating a strong feeling of natural closure.The project seeks to emphasize this natural specificity of the location, orienting the main spaces of the house to the south, in order to create a strong relation with the landscape whilst taking advantage of the best sunlight. Sited on the pristine greenery adjacent to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and spanning 21,000 square metres, the Temasek Club was purposed as a sanctuary for Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regulars, Full-time National Service and National Service officers to relax within the natural surrounds. DP Architects (DPA) won the design competition held by Temasek Club on the basis of its merits: chiefly, it was the only scheme that sought to conceal the volume of the club buildings by ingeniously tucking the mass within a natural valley in the terrain.
