Kaeo Place

Many people were horrified by the destruction of the wildfires that burned most of Lahaina in 2023. We were approached by homeowners to help them re-build their burned out properties. One of those properties is on the edge of town, on a small street of other singe family homes needed to be rebuilt. With rule changes to the zoning code in Lahaina, we can now offer more ADUs and other smaller dwelling options than before. The design of the new residence at Kaeo Place offers a larger single family residence at the front, and a smaller double ADU unit in the rear. My initial idea is inspired from the species of Nudibranchs which are marine gastropod molluscs. They have fascinating shapes with soft-body and sumptuous hues.In addition, they are approximately bilaterally symmetrical externally together with asymmetrical origins.  Possibility of visiting the marine creatures through the glassy area of the facade and columns due to draw attention of visitors form outdoor to indoor spaces is the special feature of the project. Architect Paul Noborikawa, principal at Noborikawa & Associates in Hawaii, seamlessly blends environment and design in this luxury residence on the island of Oahu. The main attraction of the modern home is a great room that opens to the yard courtesy of 75 feet of Series 600 Multi-Slide Doors from Western Window Systems. Other features include an energy-efficient design, modern materials such as polished concrete floors, granite counters, and storage for kayaks and surfboards. More
