Hempcrete block installation highlights the potential of bio-based materials in construction
In September 2023, Casa da Arquitectura – Centro Português de Arquitectura (Portuguese Centre for Architecture) in Porto hosted the second edition of “Build - From High to Low Tech”. This international conference aims to challenge prevailing perspectives and thinking around the use of materials and technology in architecture. A new experimental group exhibition presents the building materials of tomorrow
In a new experimental group exhibition at Copenhagen Contemporary, the Danish capital’s international art center, Reset Materials — Towards Sustainable Architecture presents the building materials of tomorrow. At the intersection of art and architecture, the exhibition explores the future of architecture through ten innovative works and offers a critical comment on the way we build today. Reset Materials is the result of a unique collaboration between Copenhagen Contemporary and the Danish Association of Architects. The exhibit celebrates Copenhagen’s designation as World Capital of Architecture 2023.

Detail: hempcrete facade of town hall Voorst
For the reconstruction of the town hall of Voorst, in the forested countryside of eastern Netherlands, architecture office De Twee Snoeken developed a hempcrete facade made from the stalks of regionally harvested plants. It’s among the largest applications of the biobased material in the region.
