Reconstruction of the Drechsler Palace, creation of the W Budapest Hotel The reconstruction of one of Budapest's emblematic buildings, the Drechsler Palace, designed by Ödön Lechner, has been completed. The former luxury tenement building with a checkered past has opened its doors after almost twenty years as part of the W hotel chain. Our task was to create spaces to protect and display these inspired carvings of diverse origin that pay homage to the mother of Mary, grandmother of Christ. Sensitively reconstructed apartment house from the beginning of the 20th century with a contemporary extension envisages the possibility of use for permanent housing or recreational use as well as an investment property. The chamber project contains a total of 11 residential units. The staircase between the first and second floors in a large town house have made way for a new staircase that leads directly to the second floor. The wood-covered staircase is a readable sculptural addition that makes it possible to divide up the large house while preserving the typically large spaces of the town house.
