Cloister In the Forest- IIT Bombay Hostels

This project has been conceived as a multi-layered approach to sustainability, social life and architectural expression.  As with the rest of Mumbai, the IIT Bombay campus faces the challenge of housing an increasing population on a limited parcel of land. Double B Hostel

VMA Design Studio has completed the Double B Hostel Project, transforming a land plot with narrow street entry in Bangkok's historic old town district into a 27-room boutique hostel that bridges traditional wood craftsmanship with contemporary organic forms. The design creates an unexpected spatial sequence that draws visitors from Bangkok's narrow streetscape into a light-filled internal courtyard, where handcrafted wooden facades curve overhead like flowing timber waves. The hostel stands in one of Bangkok’s old town communities where artisans have made Buddhist statues and religious artifacts for generations. Youth Hostel Gerlos

The "Youth Hostel Gerlos" is located in the Austrian Alps in the village of Hochkrimml at an altitude of 1700 meters. Skiing is firmly anchored in Austrian society and is part of school teaching. This project aims to make school trips in an ecological environment more affordable. That is why the hotel was built from regional wood in solid wood construction, the hotel is heated by biomass district heating, electricity comes from photovoltaic, the journey is not made by individual transport but mainly by coach and the leftover wood from the transport of the cross-laminated timber walls was processed into furniture. Concept/Philosophy Stacked student housing is designed so as to move away from the typical dormitory or hostel typology, which in our opinion fosters a regimented form of social control by use of single loaded corridor organizations.
