Perched on the hillside of El Sunzal, El Salvador, this boutique hospitality project unfolds on a 600 m² site carefully intervened to preserve the essence of its natural surroundings. The site’s main trees were preserved, becoming a fundamental part of the circulation and of the introspective spirit that guides the experience. Here, architecture does not impose itself—it adapts, frames, and engages in dialogue with the landscape. The Mercure Bangkok Surawong Hotel is a sensitive renovation project that reimagines an existing structure with deep respect for its architectural and urban context. Situated in a historic neighborhood shaped by mid-century modernism, the design takes a conservative approach—aiming not to stand out, but to belong. Casa Montelongo is situated in northern Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, in the centre of La Oliva. A completely renovated 19th-century house, once home to a well-connected local family, it comprises two self-catering units created from the bones of the former theatre and original casa. In the last century, during the summer time, crossing the plains and the seashore of the island of Zakynthos, one encountered different variations of an interesting ephemeral architectural form, the primitive stilt hut. This construction primarily functioned as an observation unit during agricultural work, and later as a pleasant and cool place for the residents to stay during the summer. In an untouched natural landscape with steep slopes and rich relief, characterized by two distinct hills, we have been asked to elaborate the concept and to design a 100-bed boutique hotel. We decided to create a complex of suites with privacy, in a relaxing environment, without disturbing the essential beauty and tranquility of the pristine Mediterranean landscape. We came up with the idea of a castle settlement, with low-rise buildings and integration into the environment as best as possible.
