Hotel renovation

The Annex hotel project is an interior renovation of a building that was over a century old. The building was originally built as horse stables with industrial steel structure and exposed brick walls four wythes deep. When StudioAC was approached to convert the building into a 24 room hotel it had been existing as commercial studio spaces turned rooming house for several years. As the requirement of the owner, an aged apartment on Sukhumvit 23 road, in the heart of Bangkok, Thailand, has been renovated into a seven-storey hotel named ‘TwoThree Hotel’. The small dimensions of the apartment rooms and their windows were found to be the major issue in the existing building since this resulted in the uncomfortable rooms with insufficient daylight.To improve the existing deficient spaces, the architect decided to expand the room sizes and openings simultaneously to generate larger, brighter and more functional hotel rooms. Author's report The hotel rooms are located in the former Měšťák Hotel, in the very centre of Český Krumlov. Originally three separate Gothic houses from the 14th century were joined into one complex in the 1950s. Unfortunately, the houses have undergone several large renovations during their life (last one in the 1990s), having had most of their original details, with a few exceptions removed. THIS STREET, COMPRISES AN ATTACHED ROW OF FIVE VICTORIAN BRICK SINGLE STOREY HOUSES.THE ORIGINAL FRONT PART OF OUR CLIENT’S HOUSE CONSISTS OF A CORRIDOR ON THE NORTHERN SIDE WITH ACCESS TO THE TWO BEDROOMS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE. The plans and the facades of the project, where the columns and floors were completed, were reconsidered.Different rectangular pieces were obtained by dividing the facade into asymmetric modules.These different units were separated and formed together by certain color combinations.We wanted to create a distinctive effect from the current built environment in the front yard using the water element at the entrance.Redesigned all floor plans.
