Graffiti on the walls and an aged concrete finish create the illusion of a “memory of place”. It’s as if there was an industrial space here before. To complement the texture of concrete and make the room cosier, the floor is carpeted with a traditional “carpet” pattern. Caption The furniture has a warm wood texture. The large number of indoor plants is an allusion to a real jungle. Several plants are locked in a cage, symbolising the power of nature, which is not afraid of any human limitations. Leading Manchester-based designers SpaceInvader have created the interiors scheme for a new-build, 9-storey, 95-bed Tribe hotel within Malta’s fast-developing airport city complex for client Claret Group in partnership with Accor. The owners of the Skypark development in Malta, where the hotel will be located, invited bids for one of the sites to become a hotel. Grand Hyatt Xi’an takes reference from the spirit of the Silk Road and reinterpret into the elegant contemporary interiors of the hotel. The theme begins in the double-height lobby where patterned timber walls form wing-like motifs and a large feather-like sculptural feature extends ten meters from the floor to the ceiling, lit from below. The lobby’s bubble lifts are wrapped in curved laser-cut metal screens with images depicting ancient Chinese palaces. An extravagant curved staircase leading to the function rooms sets the scene for a grand entrance by evoking the motion of desert sand dunes. Author's report The hotel rooms are located in the former Měšťák Hotel, in the very centre of Český Krumlov. Originally three separate Gothic houses from the 14th century were joined into one complex in the 1950s. Unfortunately, the houses have undergone several large renovations during their life (last one in the 1990s), having had most of their original details, with a few exceptions removed. One of such exceptions is the 'presidential suite' with its preserved carved Renaissance beam ceiling. In the design, we tried to bring the buildings' long lost nobleness back into the rooms and also introduce something from its original features - wooden beam ceiling and parquet floors. Opened in late 2017, Le Meridien Shenyang is an ode to both the mid-century modern roots of Le Meridien brand and to the city of Shenyang itself; both in terms of its historical significance as the one-time capital of China’s last dynasty, the Qing, and also its location in the North-East of China with its four distinct seasons. In the Hospitalet de Llobregat district, by the south gates of Barcelona, a black and white twin tower 110 metres tall emerges from a garden of palm trees. This privileged space in Barcelona’s new Plaça d’Europa is a garden full of light and shade, delightfully fresh and cool. The Hotel Renaissance is an invitation to luxury, its entrance marked by a generous canopy of living green vegetation. Two external walkways tie the two buildings together along their entire height. The walkways host a luxuriant vertical landscape, bordered by the guestroom passageways and criss-crossed by terraces and staircases in an interplay reminiscent of Piranesi.
