Six Bricolage Houses: An inventive model for urban renewal and housing design in Nantou, Shenzhen
ARCity Office embarked on a project that would establish a new typology of “bricolage architecture” in Nantou Ancient City, a historic site in Shenzhen, China. In a project titled “Six Bricolage Houses”, the studio renovated six self-built houses, creating an inventive model for urban renewal and housing design.

With a site of moderately marked topography, this house adapts and permeates very well with its context. It was conceptualized under the premise of seeking a single level in the majority of the house, making it a discreet and private project. It moves in a square shape in such a way that we prioritize the view and green areas for social areas and we propose a body for the bedrooms that generates privacy and is oriented towards the South. Both elements are subtly isolated by a common patio.

The project is an individual residential house situated in the rural outskirts of Skenderaj, specifically in the village of Llaushe. The area is characterized by its lush greenery, sparse population density, and serene surroundings. Our studio had the privilege of contributing to both the architectural and interior design aspects of the project.
