Contemporary working within historic fabric

The renovation of the listed storefront office, dating from 1900 in Munich Schwabing, was conceived as an open-ended design process. Rather than defining the intervention entirely in advance, decisions were made throughout construction in direct response to the historic building fabric revealed on site. As the existing finishes were carefully removed, original layers of the building came to light, including historic wall prints, the original herringbone parquet flooring, and ceiling heights of up to 3.7m. Symmetreat - Aesthetic Clinic

Partial restoration and revitalization of a listed 19th-century villa in the center of Munich, Germany. The 400 m² property was transformed into an aesthetic clinic while preserving and restoring its historic architectural fabric. Original crown moldings, hardwood parquet flooring, and bespoke carpentry were carefully refurbished, while contemporary interventions were introduced to accommodate the clinic’s functional requirements. How to maximize the use of limited space? Both conceptually and visually, differential growth is used as a key element in the bistro. The growth pattern follows a clear mathematical system, even when it appears to be random. This system is based on an algorithm modeled after natural occurrences and simulated using parametric software. The mathematical understanding of growth evolution was used not only for the light installation as the centerpiece, but also for smaller artifacts located on both floors. A similar idea is applied to the interior cladding around the counter.
