SEZ Villa

The villa is located on the largest island of Seychelles Island (Mahe). Caption Caption The interior of the villa is made in a traditional co-colonial style with elements of modern design. Caption Caption In the decoration, we used most of the traditional local materials, which are adapted to the local hot and humid climate. These are hardwood species such as merbau and teak. For finishing the floor and walls of wet rooms, we ordered Turkish marble, as natural stone is ideal for such rooms. All technological materials and components, including household appliances were brought from Europe. While all the cabinet furniture was made at the local manufactory. Caption Caption Caption More

Lone Madrone Residence

Located on a rocky, wind-swept south facing shoreline; this 1,600sf retreat home nestles into the landscape in order to harmonize with it’s surroundings and minimize exposure to weather. Designed with retractable wall panels to protect from punishing winter storms, the house nevertheless opens up completely to the outdoors when the weather is fair — allowing the owners to fully interact with the landscape and view. The site is within the San Juan Islands National Monument, with extremely sensitive shorelines and marine environment. In order to minimize impacts to natural systems, a garden roof was employed to replace landscape lost to construction, and storm-water flows were engineered to replicate the pre-construction condition... The frequent and inhospitable north wind, the oppressive heat and the remoteness of inhabited zones can be the reason why this area has not been built until now. The views are very beautiful and distant. The house moves between these Natural forces: she protects from the wind, generates natural inside ventilation to regulate summer temperature, builds a small court with controlled microclimate and, at the same time that she protects herself, opens to the outside making a performance with nature and its energies. Volumetrically, the house is crystalline, and has a mineral approach that suits her being nearly leaning in the rocky massif of Mont Farrutx More

Paraty House

There is a legend which says that the region of the colonial city of Paraty and Angra dos Reis (between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro) has 365 islands, one for each day of the year. Two boxes of reinforced concrete, rest fixed connected on the mountainside of one of these islands; two modern prisms between the large colossal stones of the Brazilian coast. The volumes project outward from the mountain, almost abreast of the beach, in a 8-meters cantilever. The house, of structural ingenuity, finds balance in the topography of the land, constituting an extensive open doorway and living space in the practically-untouched nature. In the rocks of Paraty, in the dense rain forest of the island, poisonous spiders, discover this orthogonal volume an... More

Island House

Floating site on the river This site, where is floating on river and confronted the graceful landscape, was strongly recognized to me as a part of nature, from the first time that I met. From then, I started to visualize "the architectural nature" as a place of recreation. Form of site = Form of architecture = Maximum efficiency of landuse While maximizing the efficiency of landuse, the leaner concrete mass, that cherishes the courtyard where is filled with the water and the greenery, was laid out on this site along the irregular formed site line. This courtyard is "The architectural nature" and a central recreation space as extended river that communicate the river and architecture. Continuous circulation of stepped roof gard... More
